We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Tindall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been passionate about photography throughout my childhood, but it wasn’t until after high school that I realized that it could be much more than just a hobby. I knew I could succeed more in working for myself than someone else. It’s essential for me to have complete creative control but also be in charge of the administrative side of the business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It was not easy to get where I am today in my photography business. For several years, I believed I wouldn’t be able to succeed in owning my own business. It’s definitely easy to get comfortable in the day-to-day of working for someone else. I continued to put off the idea of pursuing my own business because it just felt too difficult at the time. To be completely transparent, two years ago I was suffering from severe anxiety. This of course was no help in wanting to make a jump and start my own photography business. Eventually, I realized that so much of my anxiety was caused by the job I was working at at the time and I knew that I had to move on from that workplace or I would continue to suffer. So much of my anxiety and suffering were released when I took the jump to pursue the career I truly wanted. I will always encourage others to make that leap of faith because while it might not always be easy, it will be well worth it in the end.

Photography has always been an important part of my life and now when I wake up every day to go to ‘work’, it doesn’t even feel like work anymore. I love working with my clients and being able to tell their stories through my lens.\

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places in the Bay Area is Mount Tamalpais, State Park. It offers some of the most incredible views, hikes, and beautiful redwood trees. After exploring Mount Tamalpais for the day, I’d drive over to Barrel House Tavern in Sausalito, CA. This restaurant has an incredible wine selection and views of San Francisco Bay. I’d definitely finish the day off watching the sunset at Rodeo Beach. In my opinion, Mount Tamalpais and Sausalito are the highlights of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to start off by acknowledging my boyfriend, Nick. He has been incredibly supportive of me through all my ups and downs in life and choosing my career. He immediately recognized how important photography is to me and pushed me to pursue what I am genuinely passionate about. I would also like to acknowledge my bosses George Jegen and Teresa Leibnitz. During the week, I continue to work in an administrative role in a tax office. I choose to continue working with them because of how incredibly supportive they have been of me and pursuing my own business. If I didn’t have their support, I would not be seeing the success I am today.
