We had the good fortune of connecting with Eposi Litumbe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eposi, what matters most to you?
What matters to me most is Integrity. Of my work/efforts, the integrity of my relationships, the integrity of the way I conduct myself – these things all have meaning to me. In terms of  my ‘why’, the answer is my parents. They made it a priority to teach me that it was important to earn respect with integrity, and so that sends it to the top of the list of what matters most to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Thank you! I am a multi-hyphenate based here in San Diego and I also currently earn a living in the thriving Biotech industry here. I started out in film as an actor & action movie/tv show stunt performer and made a transition to Writer/Producer/Director after spending years studying those skills. I am most certainly still growing, I hope that never changes, but I have come a long way in independently producing a San Diego based show for TV called MAYFLOWER. It is a story about a group of regular young people in San Diego and their experiences chasing their American Dreams, and centers around the specific experiences of each character. An ensemble led by West African American character, ‘Enan’, my aim is to tell specific, unique stories of people living in San Diego. I am excited for plans for the summer filming of our most ambitious episode yet, S1E2. The series is an art piece, & love letter to the city of San Diego.

I am the most proud of the way my team (cast & crew) and I have grown. For the last 3 years, production has been slow because I work to earn what I spend on the art (Creative independence is hard, but an attainable challenge). I do celebrate that the same people continue to come back, and that our show not only gets better, but we continue to get more support with every subsequent episode. Great relationships, mutual respect and mutual support appear to be what is working.

The easy part is coming up with ideas. The hard part is executing them.

I want the world to know that it is possible to want something, for that thing to seem impossible, and for you to chip at it. One small chip at a time, until suddenly, one day, the mountain is finally a mole hill.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love when people come visit me in San Diego! To show my Bestie the most wonderful San Diego time, (which I have before), the mornings start with breakfast/brunch at ‘The Cottage’ in La Jolla, Hob Knob Hill in Banker’s Hill or Morning Glory downtown. Having beach days would be incomplete with the most awesome tacos – my favorite are from ‘Oscars’, although every person in San Diego might have different opinions on who makes the best tacos. Another beach day favorite, hands down is ‘Board & Brew’. That secret sauce had my Bestie wanting to move to San Diego immediately. We obviously have to make time to see the Sea Lions at La Jolla, stop by Old Town San Diego, hike to potato chip rock, run through Balboa Park and spend some down time with drinks at Corner Drafthouse in Banker’s Hill, or Born & Raised in Little Italy or Rustic Root in Gaslamp. I would not let anyone I care about leave San Diego without suggesting they first try a treat from Extraordinary Desserts!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The many local San Diego Artists & vendors I collaborate with on a regular basis – William Coldwell, a Screenwriter here in San Diego who runs the 21st Rewrite podcast, Incredible talent, 1st assistant Director, Kevin Burke who has been investing in local film & tv artitst for years, & Barbarella Fokos, Director extraordinaire. Having a vision is one thing. Having a community that supports your vision in word and action is a soaring experience.
