We had the good fortune of connecting with Elliot McMonagle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elliot, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first began cultivating dreams around entrepreneurship I saw the many opportunities for financial freedom, personal autonomy, and thoroughly changing the trajectory of a young person’s life. As a young graduate from Colorado State University I found myself in a world with endless possibilities and nowhere to start. When I started working I realized how quickly I burnt out from sitting inside all day, dealing with numerous emotional needs, and a wage that would not expand upon its current rate without more schooling. I switched jobs and found myself in similar predicaments but what I came to find out more was lack of passion and lack of integrity within the workplace. This really bothered me and I wanted to make changes. I could see from many of my peers that having personal clients to coach, could offer more flexibility in my schedule and I could be in control of the rate in which people pay for my services. My drive has been guided towards the younger generations because of their susceptibility of the world around them and how much power they have to live an epically expressed life from a young age. It would be unique for young adults to find out that they can enjoy the process and thrive throughout the process of becoming. As a young adult myself and seeing how many years I have lived in corners wondering if I really am as great and powerful as everything says I am, I know that my business would impact many lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In recent months I have begun selling my acrylic paintings, posting YouTube videos of my food and courageous acts, and sharing my unique Trans style online. What sets me apart from most artists is that I dabble in many artistic pursuits and do not confine myself to one particular craft. I find that my uniqueness is based upon my childlike sense of colors and whimsical nature as well as my ability to put my body on the forefront to push the boundaries of what is feminine and masculine. I am most excited about my newest YouTube posts where I am sharing 30 Days of Courage. I have gone camping alone spontaneously, taken on a Monster Sushi Roll eating competition, asked strangers to make TikToks with me while dressed in a clown outfit, danced in public for money, and started learning how to play the guitar. Starting a business has not been easy, there are many, many moving parts and it is emotional. For me it also is challenging to separate myself from my business at times and find ways to balance work and personal. Though I will say the more I continue to find communities that will support the journey and witness the changes and growth makes it 10X more encouraging to stay the course. In my communities I find people going through similar experiences and that understand parts of my journey. As well as, I have coaches and schooling that are providing me the tools, exercises, and frameworks to practice while I continue to pursue which is absolutely necessary for me to stay grounded and practical while dreaming and creating as an artist. I’ve learned about multiple streams of income, regular dates to check in with myself on progress of where I have been and where I am going, and business is not one quick manifestation overnight. I’ve learned about ancestral wounds and how to heal them to begin a new life of my own, many people will not understand you and many more people will want to get to know you and support you along the way, and recommitting to yourself and choosing yourself throughout, is imperative. I’ve learned about slowing down and learning to breathe, love, and learn throughout the entire process of building a business and a life for myself. What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that there is no box that can put myself or anyone else into and there is no problem that will fit in one either. Therefore, my brand creates space to {become} through courageous and eclectic artistic pursuits to live out multiple lifetimes within this one human body and to always say yes to yourself, your growth, and the love you desire to change what we believe to be possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I would take them to Ocean Beach otherwise known as OB so they can feel the vibes, see the dog on the beach, and afterwards walk to a yummy restaurant for noodles and chicken wings at OB Noodle House. Next day we would have to find a great hiking spot to go to and look at the views of San Diego which would be found through the hiking app called AllTrails. I would also recommend checking different pockets of communities starting with Barrio Logan which used to have art crawls on Fridays once a month but due to COVID I am not sure if they are still hosting those. Then I would say Hillcrest where you can find multiple gay and lesbian bars, first one to shoot for is Gossip Grill. It is one of the only lesbian and non-binary bars open in the United States. After covid many lesbian bars were unable to stay open. Seaport Village would be our next stop to walk along the pier, see the boats and sea lions, and then walk to Little Italy for amazing pasta and pizza. Lastly, I would drive us up to Encinitas to beach walk and check out the great stores and shops in town. They have an incredible healing center to walk through and the vibe is completely different than many other places in San Diego.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For The Shoutout series I have many folks I would love to acknowledge for their support, time, resources, mentorship, and more. I am beginning with Tori Washington, Wealth Mentor. Speaker. Embodied Business, who was my first spiritual mentor when I moved to San Diego. It was here that I finally realized I wanted to be an entrepreneur. Since I have embarked on many pursuits to make this happen and recently have made my way back to work with her and hundreds of other womxm to heal my financial wounds and be a leader in my business. She has kicked my ass into many different gears and is one of the most loving, real, and impactful leaders I have ever come across. In addition to her I would like to shoutout my family and friends who have been supporting me in practicing client sessions, helping me to find side gigs, grounding me when I needed to find my feet again, listening to my cries, and cheering me on. Other coaches that have had a huge impact on my life are Cuyla Coogan, Mindset Coach, Speaker, LGBTQ+ Activist, Freestyle Rapper, founder of the Coming Alive Movement, and Stefi Lane, Magnetic Queens: From Wishing to Winning in life + love + biz, who have helped me immensely with uncovering my truest nature and guiding me to discover my trans identity and being able to fully unleash and express myself as me. Lastly, and this one is dear to my heart, Bethany Whitman who does Readings & Chakra Balancing with Reiki Healing Energy, Shaman Medicine, A Mentor. Bethany has healed major and minor inner child wounds and has helped me to fully love, accept, and know myself in a profound way. She is the best psychics in San Diego, if not the world. She is extremely precise in her abilities and her abilities to heal and teach how to heal is to be shared globally.
