Meet Elizabeth Greenblat | Goldsmith & Jewelry Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Greenblat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Exodus Goldsmiths has been my commitment to building unique personal relationships with my clients and honoring the emotional weight that their jewelry carries. I want to make meaningful things, not just pretty jewelry. Particularly when it comes to redesigning a family heirloom that’s been tucked away for decades or working on a custom engagement ring that marks the start of someone’s next chapter, my process is rooted in trust, emotion, and storytelling.
People come to me because they want something that feels deeply personal — not mass-produced or transactional. I take time to listen to the stories behind their pieces, learn about their families, their values, and their vision. That relationship is at the heart of what I do. It’s why clients come back, refer their friends, and talk about their jewelry as if it’s a part of them — because it is.
I also think my background as both a designer and a craftsperson play a role in that. I’m not removed from the bench — I’m there, day in day out. I’m hands-on with the metal, the stones, the design, and that level of involvement allows me to craft and deliver a finished piece that’s not only high quality but also emotionally resonant. That combination of intentional design, personal connection, and craftsmanship is what’s made my business stand out.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I make legacy pieces that reflect the lives and values of the people who wear them. Exodus Goldsmiths is my heart project turned business — a fine jewelry brand rooted in storytelling, heritage, and personal connection. I specialize in heirloom redesign and custom engagement rings, which means I work closely with clients to create one-of-a-kind pieces that carry deep emotional weight. What sets my work apart is the meaning behind each design. I don’t make mass-produced jewelry. What sets my work apart is the intention behind every piece. I don’t just design jewelry; I help people honor their stories, preserve memories, and create new traditions through wearable art.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. They bring me their most sentimental items — sometimes pieces that have been in their family for generations — and ask me to breathe new life into them. That kind of emotional responsibility is something I hold with deep care. And it’s what keeps me inspired every day.
Getting to where I am now wasn’t easy. I started at age 15 with very little — no money, no platform— just a passion for design and a love for sparkly gemstones. I had to learn everything from the ground up: goldsmithing, pricing, branding, customer experience, and all the messy in-betweens of running a business. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and feeling like I was building in the dark — but I always came back to my “why.”
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that slow, intentional growth is a gift. Building a business with real soul takes time. But when you stay true to your values, the right clients find you. The relationships I’ve built, the referrals, and the repeat clients — it’s all happened naturally because people feel the heart in what I do. It’s about honoring the past while celebrating the present. Whether someone is commemorating love, loss, transition, or legacy, I’m here to help them mark that moment with intention — and create something beautiful that lasts.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a San Diego native, so there’s about a million things. Please keep in mind these are not in any specific order as they’re all-around town. We would have to visit the following: La Jolla Cove to explore the tidepools, see the museums in Balboa Park and stop by Old Town and eat fresh tortillas. If they’re visiting during the summer, we would also go to Fiesta Island to watch the Sea World fireworks. At some point we would need to go get ice cream at Jeni’s in Carlsbad. I would also insist on getting dinner and dancing to some live jazz music at the Lafayette Hotel, and another night get dinner at Seneca Trattoria in Downtown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, I want to give a huge shoutout to Rich — the goldsmith who trained me and completely changed the course of my life. He didn’t just teach me how to work with metal; he taught me how to think like a fine craftsperson. The level of patience, discipline, and care he brought to the bench was something I had never seen before, and it shaped the way I approach every single piece I make today.
He believed in my potential before I fully saw it in myself. He gave me space to learn, to make mistakes, and to keep showing up even when things felt hard or out of reach. He taught me that being a goldsmith isn’t about perfection — it’s about intention with the right mindset. That lesson has stuck with me not only in jewelry but in how I run my business, connect with clients, and build my brand.
So much of Exodus Goldsmiths is built on the foundation he helped lay, and I’ll always be grateful for his mentorship and the quiet, steady confidence he passed on to me. I owe a lot of my skill, philosophy, and my pride in the craft to him.
