We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Yani St.Cyr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D’Yani, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Grin’d & Bearit is not only my life story, but a testament to those individuals that thrive in adverse circumstances. As a single parent I struggled balancing 13-to-16-hour work shifts, continuing education at the masters degree level, full time parenting and freelance designing. My circumstances led me to take hold of the reins of my life and trust God to guide me. I was born with a variety of creative gifts; therefore, I combined my love for fashion and my life’s journey to create a clothing brand that encourages endurance, perseverance, and success through faith in God. April of 2013, Grin’d & Bearit (Grin as you grind and bear it) was launched.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Grin’d & Bearit is a lifestyle brand that encompasses two logos. The original logo (which is now our limited-edition logo), is a panda bear with a golden grill. The panda bear, in China, is revered as a symbol of strength and peace; and the golden grill is a symbol of light that shines through when you smile in the face of adversity. The T at the end of Grin’d & Bearit represents the cross that Jesus bore as he prepared to sacrifice His life for us. The new logo is an eye with a maze. The eye represents focus, and the maze represents the cycle of life. Life has twist, turns, trials and tribulations, but when one focuses on Christ, He will clear your vision and provide insight. As to date, Grin’d & Bearit has been worn by celebrities, musicians, and featured on national television. In 2015 we had the privilege of exhibiting in the International Magic Fashion Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV.

This journey as an entrepreneur is not for the faint hearted. My success thus far is a result of my spiritual foundation in Christ and my loved ones. There were moments when I wanted to quit but my family pushed me and encouraged me with their continued support. The amount of fortitude and faith required, is a daily decision to trust God whether celebrated by others or not. To Grin’d & Bearit is to know that if God is by your side and in your heart anything is possible. I encourage those that are discouraged to remain steadfast and trust the process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Gettys Museum, Hills of Palos Verdes, Theme Parks, BOA Steak House, Court Cafe Inglewood, Pico Roscoes, South Coast Plaza, Dubunne Spa Torrance, Ride Wit Us Bike Store & Events, Manhattan Beach, Melrose, Picnic’ N’ Charm, TuPac Shakur Experience, Long Beach Pike, Randy’s Donuts, Pinks Hotdogs. I’d take them to the beach cities Saturday and Sunday, Ride Wit Us on Tuesday and Thursday, plan a picnic on Friday, and make sure to hit the other spots listed, the rest of the week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
