Meet Dr. Erica Wollerman | Clinical Psychologist and Founder of Thrive Therapy Studio

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Erica Wollerman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Erica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe that Thrive Therapy Studio has been successful due to the sheer passion that drives all of us to do the work that we do. I have been fortunate to have found team members at Thrive who are equally passionate about helping children, teens, families, and parents live their best lives and know how to support them in order to do that! I also believe that my personal passion for connecting with the community has been as asset as I love meeting people and sharing about our work, which has helped spread the word about Thrive and what we offer the community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most excited about our future at Thrive. We are expanding quickly and even growing our office space despite being all online for sessions still. Our team works so well together and we truly feel that we have all the pieces in place to expand more and be able to support the community even more. It is an amazing thing to watch – similar to parenting and watching your child grow!
I am also really grateful to have found a wonderful specialization in my work and now primarily support parents particularly those who have children with significant challenges, a history of trauma, and/or anxiety in their family (either themselves or their children). It is amazing to be able to support this group of people particularly during a pandemic and when so much pressure is placed on parents and families. Plus, the ripple effect when you help a parent leads to change in the whole family, which is truly inspiring.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to do in San Diego! Lately, my family and I have been enjoying all the kid friendly spots since we have a preschool aged son. We love going to the beach, particularly South Mission Beach and even stopping by Belmont Park so he can ride some pretty cute little rides. We also enjoy going to Legoland and stopping at Karl Strauss on the way in. Another favorite outing is to go to the Natural History Museum at Balboa Park and bring a picnic to have afterwards in the park. Some favorite restaurants include OB Noodle House, Cocina de Barrio, Kroran Uyghur Cuisine, and PT Eatery. My latest obsession has been Kula Vegan and Gluten Free ice cream which is conveniently located 3 minutes from Thrive’s office!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to all of the mentors and colleagues who have shared knowledge with me and supported me along the way. There is a long list but Dr. Kirstin Filizetti, Dr. Julia Rosengren, and Dr. Rochelle Perper were integral in starting my business! Plus, our Thrive team always deserves a shout out as Thrive would not be where it is without my team!
