We had the good fortune of connecting with Darya Deena Moallempour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darya Deena, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
The work life balance has changed for me over time. In the past, I felt like a machine, I rarely took breaks. For instance, during my lunch break I would scroll through Instagram. My job consists of creating content for social media everyday. I’ve realized that it’s ok to take a break. For me balance, is taking care of my health. I love to take walks after work, and sometimes before work. Skincare is also a form of self care for me. Before work, I place my hydrogel eye patches and drive to work. Most of the time I remember to I take them off my eye patches before I step into the office. Lastly, I have decided to go out more on the weekends. As humans we tend to put emphasize on work which is important, but sometimes we need a more than one day to recharge. Humans aren’t robots and balance is important to sustain a long and healthy life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of putting myself out there. Growing up I was told by many people that I would not accomplish my dreams. When I graduated high school, I decided to go to makeup school in Los Angeles I received a certification in makeup artistry, and I went to beauty school. It wasn’t an easy road and I drove to Downtown Los Angeles every week, which was far from where I lived. I loved every single second of it and the mentors I had were great. After receiving my certificate, I graduated from university with a Bachelors in Communications and Advertising. School was an amazing experience for me and I would not change it for the world. I learned a lot from my Professors and they always were there to help. I believe that their motivation was one of the reasons that I loved school. Currently, I work as a Marketing Coordinator and a makeup artist on the weekends. I’ve recently been interested in the professional aspect of the social media world and have posted content on my personal Instagram. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with many different brands, and receive free products. I want the world to know that don’t let anyone pigeonhole you. You are capable of doing more than one thing. If someone is telling you that you can’t do something do it twice and take pictures.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting in the area, I would want to show them the local beaches in my area. Laguna Beach has the best views and the coffee shops are to die for! Koffee Klatch is a hidden gem in Laguna. The coffee is delicious and the staff is friendly. Also, my friends are big fans of Laguna Beach the reality show. I would take them to different sites, and show them their houses. I would give them the Laguna Beach tour. Second, Moulin is a must. Moulin feels like you just stepped in France in the 1950’s. They have the best croissants, baguettes, and Nutella.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to the strong women in Iran. Iran has been under oppression by the government for 44 years. In September 2022, Mahsa Jina Amini a 22 year old girl was in a metro with her family, the morality police shoved her into a van, and physically assaulted her to death. Her crime was a little bit of hair supposedly improperly wearing her hijab. This has caused an uproar and a women led revolution. Many people have been protesting in the streets, and getting assaulted, kidnapped by the Iranian government. The people of Iran inspire me every day. Hearing these stories reminds me of why I want to use my career as a way to help people. On my social media platforms I post about the revolution, and I want people to know that this is a universal issue and it happens everywhere. I will continue to use my voice for the people in Iran and for women around the world.
