We had the good fortune of connecting with crystal Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi crystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I was a little girl I absolutely loved seeing the smiles on my family and friend’s faces whenever they would look in the mirror feeling confident about themselves. Whether it was through doing their makeup, dressing them up, or doing their nails, I realized from a young age how a little pampering could inspire a feeling of self worth within those I cared for. I’ve been chasing that fulfillment my entire life and as I’ve always been incredibly drawn to the beauty industry, when I started struggling with my own skin, I decided to take action and pursue my education as a professional skin care specialist. My journey with my own adult acne has driven me to care for those in my community struggling with their own skin, and after working in a spa, I realized I could better help my community in my own space with my own vision.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Skin By Crystal Dawn I want everyone to feel loved , heard, and appreciated. My main motivation to grow my business comes from watching my client’s self confidence blooms as they learn how to take care of their unique skin needs. Building a clientele and a brand for myself definitely comes with challenges, such as navigating legal work, learning how to market myself, and becoming motivated to venture out of my comfort zone. However I find that if I just put one foot in front of the other, and pay attention to where I’m stepping, I can look back behind me and see how each step has me farther away from where I once was, and closer and closer to where I want to go.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my extended family is able to come to San Diego, I will be so excited to take them to some of the best restaurants and food trucks in the entire world. San Diego has the best food and it’s always fun to explore new restaurants in Little Italy. We may walk around Hillcrest for Sunday brunch, visit some museums or the zoo in Balboa Park, and definitely enjoy some gorgeous sunsets on the Oceanside Peir. The Carlsbad Village and Leucadia always have splendid farmers market’s where you can get fresh locally made and homegrown food, while Palomar Mountain in Torrey pines have some really fun hiking trails that are relatively easy to access and enjoy. I absolutely love San Diego County, especially north county and there’s just so many fun things to do, but even just sitting outside with your loved ones in the beautiful perfect weather is enough to bring pure joy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so grateful for my family, my parents my grandparents siblings, and my dear friends , who have always supported me as an artist and beauty expert. These were my first models, my collaborators, my business mentors, and even my interior decorators. My family believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, and their faith in me and my passion is what has kept me motivated to pursue my career in the beauty industry, which has lead me to own my own Skin Care business.
