We had the good fortune of connecting with Cole Withers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cole, how do you think about risk?
I have thrown caution to the wind when it comes to my life/career. I tend to ignore the downside and live in the upside. It’s willful blindness to a certain extent but it pays off in realizing the rather ambitious goals I set for myself. I have lived the life of a creative and I can see how each incarnation of that has merged into the creative I am today. What I create today is built on everything that has come before. Creativity inherently involves risk of all kinds. When I risk, I am vulnerable. Vulnerability is everything.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am talented. I have always known that. But what sets me apart is my determination. I am dedicated to my craft. Talent may be God-given but craft is hard work. Dedicating your life to any creative endeavor is not easy, otherwise everyone would do it. The challenges are many and are only overcome by keeping your head down, rolling up your sleeves and doing the work. Putting in the time. There are no secrets. It’s a meritocracy. And the outcome isn’t up to me. There is joy in the process.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Solana Beach for the day and then to the Roxy in Encinitas to hear some great music and eat delicious food. We’d hit the Sea Caves in La Jolla, drive up to Idyllwild for it’s elevation and great hiking trails. Vista Point above the Coachella Valley. Head up to Joshua Tree for a sound bath at the Integraton and finish with dinner at the Edge at the Ritz Carton in Rancho Mirage. That would be pretty amazing SoCal experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are too many to list, but if I had to name one it would be Bill W. and Rene Eram.
