Meet Claudia de la Mora | Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia de la Mora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, what makes you happy? Why?
I am happy spending quality time with my loved ones and my cat Luna. Going for walks on the weekends, sunny days, exercising, drinking coffee, and eating pasta. They are everyday actions that bring me a lot of mental peace and help in my creative process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
While studying Art in 2018, I used to practice my drawing and painting with my dog named Mina, who was an Afghan Hound. She had long hair, and I was intrigued by capturing its texture. Later, I began practicing my technique with the pets of my friends.
I enjoyed creating colors and textures that characterize pets. On social media, I started posting the results of my first paintings, and my acquaintances began requesting portraits. As a student, I dedicated my free time to painting pets, and watercolor made it easy to transport materials to paint in many places.
A difficult moment was the pandemic; it brought stressful times of change, fear, and uncertainty. However, I noticed more people started contacting me to paint their pets. I believe being at home allowed people to enjoy time with their pets and connect more emotionally. I decided to name my business “Mascotas Acuarelosas”
In 2021, I adopted my cat named Luna. I decided to step out of my comfort zone by creating larger portraits using oil paint. Currently, I am fulfilling orders for pet portraits in both watercolor and oil techniques.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My recommendation for people who want to visit Ensenada Baja California is to go to the beach and enjoy its sunsets. The breweries with ocean views, such as Wendlant or Aguamala, are a must-visit. And finally, for food, the ceviche is delicious, as are the fish tacos.
If you want to go dancing, I recommend: https://www.instagram.com/lacapillaens?igsh=dm9tbml0ZzE3Mmxj
The place to go to eat, my best option is Currican: https://www.instagram.com/
To have beer and watch the sunset: https://www.instagram.com/wendlandttastingroom?igsh=NXJoMjUyazV5Nzdy

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my family who have always supported me and my community (Acuarelosos) who have been part of my growth process.
