Hi Christopher, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always enjoyed working with people and being of service to those around me and in my community. Lawyers are always given a bad reputation and I wanted to make a positive impact in the legal industry and be able to advocate for others and educate them by providing them with not only sound legal advice but also to help restore hope and help people understand that they can have a better future despite the obstacles they are facing. Having my own firm allows me the freedom to choose what cases to take on and which ones to pass on.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a Divorce and Family Law Attorney is not always easy. Christopher J. Sunnen, Esq. is an experienced and effective litigator who has the reputation of being a tireless advocate and is often involved in complex and emotionally charged family law cases. It is difficult to not throw your heart and soul into many of these cases when advocating for our clients. Especially when children are being withheld from a parent, or there are allegations of abuse. In this area of practice, you really need to maintain objectivity to provide the best counsel and objective, logical, thoughtful actions to create results. I have since become a Certified Family Law Specialist and also Minor’s Counsel for children in San Diego County. I have learned that it is not just about using the law, but also using what is there, and at times being creative and being able to think outside the box in order to assist my clients and their families. Being able to reunite families and seeing a parent reunited with their child is truly the most gratifying in this practice. Ultimately, at Sunnen Law, we try to achieve what a client wants but it is not always as simple as it seems. In every case, we take the time to make people feel like people and feel respected in challenging situations. Our motto at Sunnen Law is, “Every problem has a solution”, our clients are not alone and we strive to make even the darkest situations brighter.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start out the day with a hike at Torrey Pines and then brunch at Fig Tree Cafe, their short rib benedict is the best. We would then head over to Balboa Park of course as it is a museum galore and then check out a movie at the Imax theatre at the San Diego Space Museum. Afterward, we would rent scooters and hit up The Corner Drafthouse – short rib nachos are a must or the grilled cheese with tomato soup. Next, I’d take them to La Jolla for kayaking, and after we would stop at George’s rooftop for amazing fish tacos. There are so many amazing places in San Diego with limitless things to do as we have beautiful beaches with some of the most spectacular sea life and most of all our world-famous San Diego Zoo. How could anyone visit San Diego without stopping by the Zoo? Of course, there is also Seaport Village which is home to some amazing restaurants, one of my favorites is Puesto. There is also the USS Midway Museum and another favorite would be Old Town with its haunted past and must-visit to the Whaley House. We are lucky to live in a city where you can be at the beach one moment and in the mountains the next.

I thank my wife, Rosemarie Sunnen, for her encouragement to go out on my own and start my own practice. I also thank my wife for assisting me with running the office and ensuring all our staff and clients are taken care of.
