We had the good fortune of connecting with Christi Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The Mixer Mama was born from over a decade of mixing drinks behind a bar, a passion for creating unique flavor experiences and the desire to be present with family.

Two babies later, late nights and long hours behind a bar became a nonstarter. Being a mom is my highest priority, but finding a way to maintain an identity beyond that was vital. Making fun, unique cocktail mixers between naps helped me hold on to my pre-mom identity. After a few “science experiments” and mixing up some fun concoctions, my a-ha moment arrived. Why not turn that passion and creativity into something that can be shared beyond our kitchen?!?

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I make premium cocktail mixers. During the holidays, I create unique, homemade, specialty mixers that go into my holiday cocktail kit. I carefully craft the mixers, cocktails, garnishes and recipe menus. You have everything you need to make craft cocktails in you own home(minus the spirit). My mixers are made from only fresh natural ingredients. I never put any artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or sweeteners. The one of-a-kind kits are beautifully packaged and make the perfect holiday gift option.

Because this is still a very young business, there is room for growth in our year long offerings, marketing and services. As a mom of now 3 babies under 5 yrs old(under 1, 3 and almost 5) , my time is very limited. I have found it to be very challenging to carve out the time to really work the business side of things throughout the year. This coming school year, my two oldest kiddos will be attending school. I am excited to be able to have some of my time back and be able to focus on the business.

As a mom and part time mixologist, it is very important to me to hold myself and my business to the highest standards of quality and natural ingredients. I carefully craft my drinks and kits to provide a cocktail experience that is not just delicious, but unforgettable!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely spend some time at the LA Arts District. I would start our night at Girl & The Goat for an amazing dinner, have a drink (or two) at Death & Co. , and head into downtown for a night cap & tacos at Las Perlas. Hotel Figueroa would be the spot to crash for the night and have a delicious breakfast poolside the next morning. If my friend had never been to LA, we would take our adventure to Hollywood to hold the Hollywood sign in our hands at Lake Hollywood Park, do the touristy thing in Hollywood and end the day at Perch for a sunset meal. Later in the trip I’d take us to Laguna Beach for a tasty meal, ice cream, shopping and time on the sand. There is nothing better than rounding out a trip to LA at the beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, has definitely been one of my biggest supporters. She has helped fund some of my passion project and has encouraged me though out the last few years. She allows me the time to devote to the business during my busy season. She has also spent many late nights helping to package my holiday cocktail kits.

Another person that has been integral in the business success is my friend Monica. She also helps to package the holiday cocktail kits with me. She has spent long, late nights and weekends to ensure that I was able to deliver my products on time. She is also my sounding board and someone to bounce my ideas off of.
