We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Tracy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, why did you pursue a creative career?
For me, there was never really another plan. I was introduced to music at a very young age & I chose to pursue it in my pre-teen years shortly there after. Other forms of creative and artistic expression such as painting and graphic design began in my high school years and blossomed into adulthood with my business in creating custom Tie-Dye apparel. Music is my biggest passion, the years following graduation were impeded by desk & warehouse work of which were unfulfilling, this led to a full embrace towards my ambitions in art and music as a career. I have an uncanny ability to write music, & I know it is what I was meant to be doing with my time on this earth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I’ve pursued music since I was a teen, I only include my years as an adult in the chronology of things.

to be honest, the thing i’m most proud about in my career so far is seeing my music impacting the people around me. As humans I think we all suffer insecurities & helping people overcome some of those hardships in life through my art is truly a magical thing to experience. I cant express enough gratitude toward the universe in allowing me to do this. The road of a musician is rocky, especially being an unsigned artist. There are glamorous times on stage and on the road, but the disastrous moments are what truly show heart in pushing a music career. I’ve been robbed of my equipment, scammed by promoters, & hurt by friends along this road, but I wouldn’t change my course for any of those challenges, challenges are meant to be conquered. I overcome these struggles by showing love & positivity in the face of obstacles. The biggest lesson i’ve learned from my time in music (and adapted to my personal and business life), is that you really do have to roll with the punches, sometimes you get hit and sometimes you dodge, but you have to press on regardless of the pressures. If there’s one thing I can share and hope to have the reader take away, it would be to always show love, for Love is the most High.

the world should know, Bum Roots Project is on the rise, Reggae music is the answer to plights of the people, and we bringing the roots to all of California in the coming years.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im not familiar with the LA basin, im a San Diego kid. Ill do my best here.

My best friend actually lives out of state, the last time he visited Sunny So-Cal was before Covid-19. We had a few days to explore before he left home, this is what we did…

A quick visit to the High Desert, Lucerne Valley to be exact, where we enjoyed the best lunch and live entertainment that part of the desert has to offer at the one and only Cafe 247. Owned by a beautiful couple by the name of Kathy & Alyn Neilson. They offer the best BBQ, draft beers, & one of the deserts coolest stages for entertainment, right out back. The next few days we worked our way south into the San Diego area, visiting my hometown of Ocean Beach first and foremost. Ocean Beach is one of California’s most eclectic beach towns, offering what some would call an off beat lifestyle, the streets fill with the sweet aromas of patchouli & bay rum, and the cities best bazaar of art vendors and free love advocates pops up on any given morning right on the water. We stopped in at the pier, got a bite to eat at Cotijas in Point Loma. End your night with a panoramic view of the sunset at Sunset Cliffs. If you are lucky, you’ll see the green beam!! We found ourselves in North Park the following day attending a concert at The Observatory (now closed). One of the most ICONIC venues in central San Diego.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is a beautiful offering of praise to those around me. I have so much support behind my personal passions, that it is hard to believe. To start, I have to show recognition to my mother, Cat Tracy. Without her support in my adult years, this dream would by in vain. Secondly, My adoring son, he encourages me so much with his positivity and love, without him I would be nothing. Last but not least, even though I can’t list them all here, I would like to thank my Hippie family out of the Inland Empire, and all of the friends supporting my music and Bum Roots Project. I’d like to dedicate this S/O and our upcoming album to each one of you. Thank you so much.
