Meet Chloe Conrad M.S., CCC-SLP | Speech Language Pathologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Conrad M.S., CCC-SLP and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been a creative person, and I’ve always loved making custom materials for my speech therapy clients. But I started looking for ways to do it more efficiently—something that could save time without sacrificing quality. That’s when the idea for a speech therapy app was born.
I envisioned a word generation tool that would help new clinicians quickly find target words when working on specific sounds with children. As development began, life threw us a curveball—my fiancé was accepted into law school in San Diego. I was heartbroken to leave the company I loved in Arizona, and I found myself dragging my feet when it came time to job hunt in a new city.
Then I had a realization: this could be the perfect opportunity to start my own practice. I brought the idea to my fiancé, and he was fully on board. So, I took the leap—and I haven’t looked back.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think the name I chose for my business says it all—Spunky Speech Therapy, Inc. reflects who I am: playful, passionate, and fiercely committed to advocating for every child’s right to communicate.
What I want people to know about Spunky Speech Therapy is that I believe little voices matter. Deeply. I believe they deserve to be heard and honored—no matter how they express themselves. For me, connection is the heart of every therapy session. That’s where true communication begins.
That’s also why I’m creating the Spunky Speech app—to help clinicians spend less time planning and more time being present with the kids they serve. Because when we focus on connection, we open the door to communication that’s meaningful, empowering, and lasting.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m new to San Diego and have been loving the adventure of discovering new favorite spots! If I were showing someone around for the day, I’d start with a visit to my favorite downtown flower shop, Allen’s, where we could create our own custom bouquets.
Next, we’d head to the Little Italy Farmers Market for an iced matcha and a leisurely stroll through the vendors, keeping an eye out for a new food spot to try and support. After that, it’s beach time—because no perfect San Diego day is complete without some sunshine and ocean air.
To wrap things up, we’d grab dinner somewhere fun with great apps and cocktails, and then head home for a cozy night in… ideally playing a delightfully nerdy board game.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to the incredible women in my life who made the dream of starting my own business feel not only possible but accessible.
My grandmother was a true trailblazer—she launched her own magazine, MBE (Minority Business Entrepreneurs), in the 80s, a time when few women were seen in leadership roles. I was also lucky to grow up in a household filled with creativity and drive. My mother started her own hair salon in her twenties, and my father built a career as a freelance graphic designer.
Entrepreneurship runs deep in my family. I have aunts on both sides who’ve created and sustained their own businesses. So, this shoutout is for them—for the family who raised me to believe I could build something of my own, and especially for the women who pushed boundaries and led the way when society didn’t expect them to.
