We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheska Navarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheska, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’m pursuing a creative career as a film composer because I believe it brings out the best in me. My creative side as an artist and problem solving side as a scientist both get to work together and it’s just a lot of fun!

Life has become a great adventure since I decided I wanted to become a composer and I just love it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently I’m very excited about composing and teaching full-time within the next few years. I have a lot of experiences and things I’ve learned along the way that I’m constantly sharing on my Instagram. I’m very passionate about film composing but also love helping others make progress towards their own dreams for music.

It’s so rewarding to connect with both filmmakers and composers and be a part of their journey, even if I only play a small part.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In San Diego, eating tacos and/or burritos is a must. I’m still figuring out my go-to place because there’s just so much to choose from here!

If you’re tired of MexiCali food though, I love the Greek food at Olympic Cafe on University Avenue.

Drinking boba at Camellia Road in Clairemont Mesa is mandatory, as is drinking cider at Newtopia- but maybe not all in the same day haha.

Also, chocolate chip cookies from Batch & Box!!!

For activities… I love going outside when the weather is good, so I recommend hiking in Torrey Pines and visiting La Jolla’s various beaches.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my boyfriend who first challenged me to be honest about what I wanted in life and helped me realize that I had been waiting all my life to pursue composing.

Without him, I think it would have taken me a lot longer to be where I am today.
