Meet Charlie Christensen | Business Owner & Aspiring Singer-Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Christensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
C Surf Co. is the surf-inspired clothing brand that I created to innovate the surf fashion industry as well as create a community that empowers people on their journey of self-growth, healing, and love. After struggling with anxiety and depression for many years, I discovered a new passion and healthy outlet in surfing. Surfing teaches me every day how to heal, really live my life, and become my best self which ultimately aligned me with my purpose in wanting to empower and support others to find the same. One day I told my parents that I wanted to start my own business based on how surfing changed my life and wanted to create something that people connected to and loved. I researched all summer on how to build a business, how to grow, and how to market and now I work locally at events as well as sell online through Shopify.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

C Surf Co. is my surf-inspired clothing brand that I created to modernize the surf fashion industry as well as create a community that empowers people on their journey of self-growth, healing, and love. After struggling with anxiety and depression for many years, I discovered a new passion and healthy outlet in surfing. Surfing teaches me every day how to heal, really live my life, and become my best self which ultimately aligned me with my purpose in wanting to empower and support others to find the same.

After a couple years in business, I have learned a great deal about myself, my community, and how to live a healthier and happier lifestyle through C Surf Co. There is something really unique about C Surf Co. and I am so proud to say that my mom is the number one reason why C Surf Co. is where it is today. My mom is my number one supporter and has had my back since the day I told her I wanted to create this brand. She and I truly believe that what we are building is important not only for us, but for others as well to find a brand that empowers them to truly start living life. Although, running this business has had its challenges.To be transparent, the most consistent challenge my mom and I face with this business is the money aspect and daily trial and errors. Life can sometimes gets in the way and there are days where we feel defeated, lost, and unsure on how we will be able to keep going. But, in order to overcome these feelings, we constantly remind ourselves that our brand was created for a reason, and that reason is to not only heal ourselves, but heal others around us. These challenges are not easy, but with our passion for this business I truly believe we will become something great and important. I really want the world to know about C Surf Co. so that we can all start healing and live life together through surf and style. When I wear C Surf Co, it is my daily reminder of the growth and healing that I have done and I cannot wait to keep going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my family and friends come to town, I always make sure to take them to my favorite surf spots and local restaurants. Living in San Diego is like living on a permanent vacation with endless attractions and beach lifestyle activities. Law Street Beach and Windansea Beach are my go-to beaches that have the perfect breaks and sunsets. If you are looking for a good bite, Leilani’s Cafe and Wake and Shake are the best for a quick brunch and smoothie run. But I have got to say, the site that I take everyone who comes into town is Sunset Cliffs. You can’t beat an amazing sunset by the ocean, and on Wednesday nights they have the best local food at the Ocean Beach Farmers Market.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom and dad have been my number one supporters and the best business partners ever. My parents have helped me build C Surf Co. from the ground up and have made my dreams turn into a reality. I want to thank them so much for all of their love, support, and hard work. I could not have done it without them. They are the world to me and I cannot wait to make them proud.
