We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad Shaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chad, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Fit Athletic is deeply engaged in the San Diego community, as our business is centered around promoting health and wellness for all. We encourage healthy living through a variety of programs and services designed to support and inspire well-being. For example, Fit Athletic offers personalized training and group fitness classes tailored to meet the diverse needs of our members, along with events that are free and open to the public like our monthly yoga class at The Rady Shell. These programs are designed to not only improve physical health but also mental well-being, which is crucial in building a healthier community overall.

Fit Athletic also emphasizes exercise recovery and holistic wellness by offering recovery services such as massage therapy, cryotherapy, cold plunges, aquatic therapy and more. Services like these are essential in supporting individuals in their personal health and fitness journeys and helping those recovering from injuries or dealing with chronic conditions.

Additionally, Fit Athletic actively engages with local businesses through its Fit PERX program, which provides members with discounts at over 200 local merchants from restaurants and bars to salons, retail stores and more. This initiative benefits both Fit Athletic members and local businesses by helping to boost the local economy and encouraging the community to patronize these companies.

We are highly committed to supporting both the community and broader humanitarian efforts. In addition to promoting health and fitness through personalized training, group classes and wellness services, Fit Athletic also contributes financially to charitable causes. A portion of Fit Athletic’s monthly revenue is donated to Urban Angels, a nonprofit organization owned by Scott Lutwak, Fit Athletic’s founder and CEO. Urban Angels is dedicated to providing food and resources to those in need in the San Diego area. Fit Athletic is eager to give back and make a positive impact on the world through partnerships like this.

Fit Athletic is deeply committed to health, community engagement, supporting local businesses and positively impacting the community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Fit Athletic is a premier fitness and wellness community in San Diego, distinguished by our luxurious amenities, cutting-edge equipment and comprehensive wellness services such as massage therapy, cryotherapy and physical therapy. What truly sets Fit Athletic apart is our vibrant community atmosphere, cultivated through the exclusive Fit PERX program, which offers members discounts at over 200 local businesses. Additionally, Fit Athletic hosts monthly events, social gatherings and networking opportunities at partner locations. These events help foster connections among members and promote local businesses. Fit Athletic is especially proud of its devotion to community engagement, including its free public fitness classes at The Rady Shell and its contributions to the charity Urban Angels.

I’ve reached where I am today as the chief operating officer of Fit Athletic by being in the right place at the right time and seizing every opportunity that came my way. My success has always been rooted in prioritizing people, guided by the three Ps: hiring and nurturing good people, establishing processes for efficiency and letting production naturally follow. I believe that anything worthwhile requires effort, but focusing on people makes the journey easier. At Fit Athletic, we genuinely care about our employees and members, and we wholeheartedly support them in their pursuits and want to ensure their success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, we’d pack in as much fun as possible. We’d kick off each day with a workout at Fit Athletic, of course. Then, we’d explore San Diego’s incredible dining scene, hitting up spots like Meze in Gaslamp, Island Prime on Harbor Island or grab wings at Social Tap before catching a Padres game. We’d also spend plenty of time soaking up the sun at the beach. It’d be a week full of great food, workouts and relaxation.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother has always been my greatest inspiration. Despite having a demanding career as a senior vice president in the title insurance industry, she excelled as a devoted mother, never missing a single event in my life or my sister’s life. Her ability to balance work and family taught me the importance of treating people well. I firmly believe that people are the cornerstone of any business. Success hinges on hiring the right individuals, fostering a positive culture, recognizing achievements, ensuring accountability and investing in their development.
