We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Castrejon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art is connected to many different ways to make a living, the freedom that I feel by being who I am as an artist is something that I can not find in other professions. The connection also includes to follow my instincts, spontaneity, and the crucial independence of mind. I often think that the artistic career pursued me. In many occasions I look for a reasonable way to explained me as an artist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my art I approach sensitive subjects, the muses, and the non descriptive motives of humans and their social life. For the most part I analyze and carry conversations and ideas with others or myself; to find those subject to paint or draw. I treat my art as pure as possible; a new idea without pollution. Art as a language, as a daily diet and as a motivation to live. Maturing as an artist is a long life process, my art should always be fresh, new media, new theme, new message; I believe that my status as an artist is a balanced between art, social and family life. It is never easy to navigate on the art world, but any trouble or challenges give value to it. Tears, sweat, nightmares, fears, enchantments, glory, joy, solitude, acceptance, rejection and many more adjectives conform this artist. Work is the key to success, success is measured when I could finish a painting. The best lessons are the ones that include the heart and not only the intellect, I often have conversations with children and older people they truly have life wisdom and common sense. Art is an action of giving I would like to continue knocking on doors of opportunity to humbly show my art. I live with the optimistic mind and every reaction towards my art is a positive reaction.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first of all I will take him to my art studio, this could help me understand his idea of best time and exploration. Eat at places that will show the flavor of the town, holes in the wall, Barrio Logan, North Park, a bit of history in Old Town, Balboa Park museums these are places that come to mind. A balance of culture and fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I recognized that every individual has his or her credits; but I do want to express much admiration to the true journalists whom exposed their life to danger to the point of loosing their lives. I have done several art pieces to render honor to those journalist that as a brave heart do their job. Shout out to my wonderful parents, their guidance on my young days and years; their untired and unlimited hours of love and discipline gave me the vision to appreciate life even in the worst moments of my life. Their voices sound in my soul and give inspiration to create values and experiences. ”They make me joyful”
