We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candice, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To have the flexibility with my schedule and the freedom of work life balance was definitely a priority. More importantly, I wanted to create a space where people felt nourished and that felt nourishing to me when I was working in it. There is a way to live nourished, slow down, and still be successful by taking time to enjoy what’s around us. Taking time for yourself each day before you start work is a must.
The idea behind Raw and Nourished is that whether you are booking a session in our treatment room, shopping locally or using our online resources it would create a space for the community to exchange information. From skincare consults to small business consulting services and shipping worldwide there’s something for everyone. When you visit us in person our goal is to have your shoulders relax when you walk into the treatment room, your body feel like it is melting into the treatment bed, and your nervous system to reset in addition to sending you out the door with glowing skin. Finding your new favorite non-toxic product, or something that resonates with you online to help you live a nourished life is the goal. This was the thought process behind creating Raw and Nourished. I’m here to help locals and support others across the globe live a more nourished life. Let’s slow down, enjoy nature, and use products with minimal non-toxic ingredients.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve taken what I’ve learned in building businesses through my trials and errors, and turned it into consulting services with other small business owners. I love helping other small businesses with their back business needs. Not only does it allow me to work remotely when I’m not in the treatment room, but I get to relieve pressure to help others focus on what they really love. I enjoy being part of the process to see their business grow. From creating a website, to website updates, branding, newsletters, and monthly coaching calls to streamline a business model. In the treatment room, each service is customized to each person with in-store shopping, non-toxic skincare, and wellness products. I use 100% organic cotton sheets, cold pressed jojoba oil, reverse osmosis water, and burn non-toxic essential oils to create a memorable experience. The brands we carry are selected and carefully curated with only non-toxic and minimal ingredients. Supporting other small businesses, and bringing in newly discovered products that align with our values, is my priority. Our location is walking distance to the beach and a meditation overlook that can be enjoyed before or after your session.
If you discover us from a distance, I offer online shopping and shipping worldwide for all products I carry. I offer resources such as booking a health coaching call, skincare consult, business consulting, and wellness information on our blog or podcast.
I was trained and certified by a functional medicine doctor with a background in nutrition and carry a unique skincare line that is created with certified organic ingredients. This skincare line allows for clinical corrective skincare in a holistic way. It uses plant derived ingredients and has a two-year shelf life that can help correct and nourish your skin. It feeds the skin, not just something that feels and smells good, but actually works to change the skin to be in a healthier state long-term. I do everything from a relaxing facial to corrective skincare with micro-channeling, light therapy, and a Signal Serum. This serum stimulates 71% collagen and keeps working for 144 hours after application. This is something that can also be used at home. Facial Sculpting, Guasha, and hot stones are a few of the other treatment options to choose from. I am so excited to be offering holistic health coaching calls. Holistic health pairs well with skin care and is connected to wellness by starting with the gut and the skin, the body’s largest organ. Having had some health issues of my own got me to where I am today, and I hope to share what I have learned with others. It has not been an easy road, but it definitely has been an interesting one. I believe we go through things to find new paths. That is what guides us to where we are supposed to be. During my 13 years in the skincare and wellness world, I have learned that healing the body with food, rest, and slowing down to live a more nourishing life can be awakening in many ways. I want to share that with people and help others to be able to do the same. Whether that be in the treatment room during a facial session, or online deep diving into the gut and body. We recently added an amazing product line that is triple tested for heavy metals, as well as other testing for the body, and supplements to support the body. I have a “less is more” approach and believe you should only take what your body absolutely needs. Doing research, ingredient reading, and talking to others in this space has helped me overcome challenges as they presented themselves. I love learning and jump at any opportunity I get to take a class to expand my knowledge base. I love meeting like-minded people and other small businesses to collaborate with. There are so many fun small businesses here in San Diego. My biggest advice would be to take time for you before you start your day. Not only can you give more, but you have more clarity to create your mindset for the day. I believe in caring for your mental health and listening to your body first, before you start to give to others.
Whatever phase or season of life you are in, I am here to support and nourish you with balance. I believe in living a nourished life with balance.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooooo this one’s fun! I was hoping I could shout out some local businesses. My first stop would be Lofty Coffee for their beautiful mint matcha latte and an almond croissant (if you can get your hands on one) at their La Costa location. Then a beach walk, or basking in the sun down on Cardiff beach with our toes in the sand, grounding with nature. Hopefully with the sun on our backs because we need that Vitamin D. Breakfast or lunch at Goodonya would be a must, with their gluten free pancakes or their turkey sandwich. Their coffee is wonderful and I love that they offer raw milk. If we’re really feeling like nature and grounding, we could walk from Goodonya to the Meditation Garden in Encinitas. It’s beautiful and so serene, definitely a spot to drop in with a visiting friend. I love the ocean air and being in nature. Either in the water, on the sand with a good book, or taking a drive down Coast Highway from Carlsbad down to Cardiff. It is blissful and roaming all the local small businesses along the way is particularly fun. Everyone is so kind and interesting. Carlsbad Village is always fun to walk around to browse Sundiego or go to the Parakeet Café to enjoy a snack in the Forum. If we needed a beauty day, Another Salon in Solano beach would be a must to feel like a new human for a fresh cut or color. Lauren and Ryan are so talented, but be sure to book in advance. Getting a smoothie or green juice at Choice Juicery and then a trip Freesoul Chiropractic to get aligned and reset. That way we are feeling our best. Nectarine Grove is also delicious and has so many good gluten free treat options. I would most definitely book a personal reading with Kim Hassey, the spirit reader either at Four Moons or direct with her (@kim_spiritreadings). She is always spot on and it’s something so fun and rare to treat someone to. She is incredibly insightful. Then shopping for clothes at Bloom Boutique. The owner is so kind and they have so many cute things as they are constantly brining in new stuff. Black Book Bikini is also a fun stop and they have the cutest swim suits, especially if you’re going on a trip, or your visitor needs one.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I lean into the Universe for guidance and go where I’m needed. I wouldn’t have had the experiences or opportunities that I have had without being open and receptive to these things. There are also two people I immediately connected with when I first moved to North County. First, I would love the opportunity to give a shout out to Dr. Mindy Brown with Freesoul Chiropractic. She is the best at realigning your body and resetting your nervous system to keep you feeling your best as she takes her time with each patient. Next, I would like to give a shout out to Mel Daly, The Brain Body Trainer. She helps you shift your outlook on life and connect into your body by finding just the right workout moves specifically for you. Another shout out to my husband for always believing in the dream, ideas, helping with projects, stepping in for kid duty when needed, and being the family chef when working late. Obviously have to shout out the parents. I grew up in an entrepreneurial household, so it just naturally flowed to me as a means to provide for myself and my family while creating something that helps others. My two boys, who are now on their own journey to support themselves and build something of their own. Marcus, who is now a Pilot, and Camden with the 233rd Space Group with the U.S. Air Force. They were both always there for projects, renovations, being photo content models, or for an emergency that needed an extra hand.
