We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Bunce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been passionate about health, fitness, and childhood development. When COVID came along, I saw how businesses committed to these areas, and subsequently the people they support, were being adversely affected. I believe so much in supporting purposeful endeavors and creating spaces that help build community. I have three kids that had all been attending My Gym up in Oregon. There was an opportunity to purchase two gyms in Poway and La Jolla and I jumped at it!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My Gym’s goal is to create an environment where children feel loved and supported so their self-esteem and confidence can flourish. All our classes are age-specific and geared toward the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of the kiddos. I’m incredibly proud to do work that I think really positively impacts our communities and aids in the development of children. It’s been a crazy, winding road to get here. I’ve worked in media, sports and tech and several other industries. There have been times where I have worked for myself, times where I’ve worked in huge, global organizations and other times lean startups. Definitely hasn’t always been easy, but so thankful for the journey and can’t wait to see what’s up ahead! I think if I’ve learned anything it’s just being willing to take a chance, to know that failure is okay as long as we keep trying and giving our best, to always practice gratitude, and never forget to have fun!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow, good question. I still feel like a relative newcomer to this amazing city and am having a blast exploring all there is to do. These days, most of my life is with kids in tow, so we’re definitely hitting the beach – likely La Jolla Shores or Powerhouse in Del Mar. Love the museums in Balboa Park and making trips to the SD Zoo and Safari Park. Of course a My Gym class or two! If the Padres are playing, checking out a game is a must and maybe if we get a sitter, going out for dinner down in Little Italy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people that have been so instrumental and deserve so much recognition in my professional journey. First and foremost is my amazing wife, Alexia, who has been there every step of the way and incredibly supportive of every career choice I’ve made, even if it meant uprooting the family and moving to a whole new city. Certainly, the amazing team at My Gym Enterprises, who are second to none in supporting their franchisees. Special shout out to Jamie and Cory Bertisch and the whole MGE team. And our amazing directors, Lyndsay and Rhi and our dedicated team of teachers who give their best every single day.
