Meet Burandy J. Wine | Drag Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Burandy J. Wine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Burandy J., how do you think about risk?
Without taking risks, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. Risks have helped me gain new relationships, experience, life lessons, etc. We take risks everyday, and it’s about the execution.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want my queer non-binary Latino folk to know that ITS POSSIBLE. No matter what struggle, whomever says other wise, forget all that. it’s possible. Whatever goals you’d like to achieve, whatever career path you see yourself in. GO FOR IT!
I used to live in Phoenix, AZ. I come from a family of 11 children (all from the same dad). I land somewhere in the middle and as the middle -ish child I definitely felt like an outsider. I knew at around 4th grade that I was a queer kid. “Bad romance – Lady Gaga” was my favorite song.. like? Hello?
But growing up queer wasn’t the most fun obviously. We all have our own story and I just want to say that despite not being in touch with most of my siblings for many years and not having my parents with me in the U.S. It was tough as hell growing up.
Like most queer folk, we gotta grow up fast and it’s like we’re in a rush to find that level of safety so we’re able to thrive and moving to L.A was that. Now that I’m here I feel like I’m truly unstoppable. I have proven to myself that it’s possible to get to where you want to go as long as you really, truly work hard and manifest it for yourself.
My drag, my styling skills, my people skills have been evolving and they’re continuing to evolve. You gotta believe in yourself as much as you believe in other people when you tell them. You got to truly mean it though.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay, so I’m a little organized but organized. If they arrive Sunday and leave a week later this is how it would go.
Sunday – They arrive, we get ready and go to Brunch in Weho. Specifically Beaches Weho because my girl LaCienega Blvdz will be hosting Sharkbait so we’d do that, then after brunch we’d go to downtown to grand central for some more food and maybe a bit of art/sight seeing. Now I do love me some cannabis so I’d visit my favorite shop “Wheehouse” in Venice and grab some goodies before I go to the beach & walk a bit. Then for dinner, I’d go to C&O cucina in Venice. That would wrap up day 1.
Monday- Brunch again- anywhere that looks good because I like to try new places. And I’m only 1 year new to LA. I’m technically still finding my spots. Monday night would be fun, because we’d go to Roccos for “Makeout Mondayz” hosted by NYX Litrè. It’s always alotta fun and there’s always time for some drag.
Tuesday- For breakfast, I’d probably say I’d cook by this time. But for lunch I’d go back to Venice and get a sandwich at “Lokal Sandwich” . Super good sandwiches, breakfast food, you name it. Dinner would have to be another home cooked meal cause I love to cook. So you can catch me taking my guest to Ralph’s or a Vons for some groceries.
Wednesday-Thursday ; we’d be relaxing. Meaning Beach days, Park day. More cannabis so we’d definitely make another visit to wheelhouse and we’d go back to downtown to Little Tokyo to explore the Japanese cuisine.
Friday – Home cooked Brunch and Lunch. Then for the night we go to Redline , or the Weho Strip. It depends who’s having a show and wats going on. But West Hollywood and Downtown are my fav places so far.
Saturday – Drag Brunch at Mickys hosted by Cake Moss and then Drag Brunch at Beaches Weho again with Lacienega then we do the after party “Tidal Wave” and we end the night at home ordering Uber eats cause we got a little too lit.
Then they leave the next day happy af and excited to see me again whenever . BAM! That would be a week with me, (if I wasn’t working). It’s a bit all over the place but you’d have a blast!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s many people I would like to thank and shoutout, but I would like to start off with my drag sisters in AZ that helped shape and create our show “Inferno Drag Show” in the downtown arts district. Their names are Rosie C. Savage, Lucy Purr, Pyra Addiction and K.Yasss. Our show wouldn’t be successful without our hard work.
I also want to shoutout my L.A sister “Alize Stone” for helping me navigate the LA drag scene since I moved out here. She’s provided a lot of show opportunities for myself and has welcomed me in with open arms.
Forever grateful for my girls! This is Family!
