Meet Brooke Menyuk | Founder/CEO of Malibu Nannies

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Menyuk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve worked as a Nanny for over 10 years and I just recently had a baby. I knew I wanted to be able to stay at home with him, but I had to figure out a way. I started Malibu Nannies to create that dream. Having been a nanny for so long, I’ve worked with my fair share of Agencies. I’ve had some terrible experiences, but I’ve also met some of the sweetest placement coordinators. I wanted to create an Agency that brought together everything I learned from my past. I wanted to be the sweet placement coordinator that I still remember fondly. My hope for Malibu Nannies is to place long term Nannies with Families that truly adore them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am such a hard worker when it comes to work. During my years as a career Nanny I think I’ve only called in sick 3 times. Often times I’d be at the park with the kids I nannied, and see other nannies on their phones, sitting on benches, not watching the children. I was shocked. The idea to start Malibu Nannies has always been there, I just had absolutely no idea where to start. Starting a company with little to know guidance is really hard. I remember a few years ago, I went to the Small Business Center to get their guidance. They had no idea what a Nanny Agency was or did, they thought all of the nannies would be my employees. It was quite discouraging because I thought well if they can’t assist me, how will I ever do this. I persevered and did my own research. I learned how to build my own website and purchase a domain. These are all things I’ve never done before. My only past experience has been Nannying.
I would love for the world to know that anything is possible you just have to do it. I was so nervous this wouldn’t become anything or that people wouldn’t trust a new company when there are so many already well established competitors out there. I was so wrong. I have more Clients than I can keep up with on my own right now and we’ve just started.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up on the east coast and have friends and family visiting often. We love to visit the beaches in Malibu. We have season passes at both Disneyland and Universal. When friends come, we have done wine tours at Malibu Wines. Often times we find ourselves just enjoying our time being together while going out for a bite to eat and enjoying a glass of wine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Husband, my Mom and my In-Laws. They have all supported me in this journey unconditionally. Thank you to my Husband, Max, for being so supportive of this dream for years while I figured out a way to set aside my fears and just do it! Thank you to my Mom, Kim, for watching my Son, Boston, for hours while I conduct interviews and sit in on webinars to grow the company. Thank you to my MIL and FIL, Laurie and Eric, for their unconditional love, encouragement and support through the entire process.
