We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittanie Harbick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittanie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Persistency has been a key factor in the success of the Travel Squad Podcast. When we started our podcast, we had no experience with podcasting. We self taught ourselves how to create, edit, and publish our episodes and we faced a lot of challenges and obstacles in order to create a high quality and engaging travel podcast. Our persistence and commitment has allowed us to establish a loyal fanbase which has been fundamental in creating other travel related products, such as travel itineraries, travel planners, and travel themed merchandise.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Travel Squad Podcast is a group of 3 friends, Brittanie Harbick, Jamal Marrush and Kimberly Deese (Jamal & Brittanie are married and Kim & Brittanie have been friends since middle school). We travel the world together and have a podcast where we share our travel stories and experiences. Our podcast episodes discuss anything travel related, including our previous trips, travel tips and hacks, travel related listicles, etc., with the ultimate goal of inspiring others to travel.

What sets us apart from other podcasts is that we are three co-hosts with 3 completely different perspectives and personalities and we jive together really well, while most other travel podcasts only have 1-2 hosts. When we record episodes together, we have a lot of fun and playful banter, and offer our own unique opinions, which translates well in our episodes. Our listeners often tell us that we are easy to listen to because we have such a great dynamic and that they feel like they are a part of our friends group when they listen to us.
We are extremely proud that we have inspired others to take their first domestic or international trip. We have received reviews, emails, and messages from our listeners sharing their travel success with us, which continues to inspire our passion for our podcast.

Persistency and commitment to the podcast is how we got to where we are today. It has not been easy, we have had some bumps in the road throughout this journey of creating a Travel Podcast. We overcame the challenges by working together, encouraging each other and not giving up. We’ve learned that hard work, dedication, and consistency pay off. We’ve also learned how to be more adaptable and fluid with our ideas.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many cool and unique places in San Diego to check out and I love showing people around. Here’s my list of highlights: Ocean Beach- walk the pier, lay out on the beach, pop into the cute little boutique shops and grab a bite and a drink at Pizza Port OB or Hodads.
Coronado- lay out at the beach, explore the Hotel del Coronado, and grab a bite at the Brigantine and finish up with dessert at Moo Time Creamery.
La Jolla- have brunch at The Cottage, check out the seals at the Children’s Pool, and enjoy the 360 panoramic views from Mt Soledad.
Point Loma- grab a bite and a drink in Liberty Station Food Hall, hit the Tide Pools at Cabrillo Monument and watch the sunset at Sunset Cliffs.
Go on a few classic San Diego hikes: Cowles Mountain, Potato Chip Rock, and Torrey Pines State Beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fellow co-hosts Jamal Marrush and Kimberly Deese have been my biggest supporters and motivators. Kimberly and I have been friends since middle school and she knows exactly how to give me constructive criticism and inspire my creative side. Jamal has been my partner of 16 years and has been my biggest motivator and guide. He knows how to reel me in when my ideas get a little far fetched and help me focus and realign my goals.
