Meet Bree Sherr | Photographer, Web Designer, & Brand Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bree Sherr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bree, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work-life balance has been and continues to be an important part of how I run my businesses. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get excited about what you’re doing and constantly try to do the next best thing or continue pushing. I learned early on that while that does help your business grow, it can also create a cycle of staying up late, missing gatherings or family dinners, and not being able to show up for loved ones. I’ve also learned that it’s not the only way to run your business. I set designated work hours during the week, being intentional to log on and off at those times so that I can be present for friends and family. The hours I’m working are structured and productive, so I still get everything done, but those boundaries have allowed me to create the life I love and not just a business that’s successful!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business ventures have taken me all over the creative industry, from photography to web design to online marketing. I started as a wedding and lifestyle photographer at eighteen and have served hundreds of couples and families throughout their life seasons. There were lots of challenges starting a business right out of high school, but I learned that the way we carry ourselves and how we treat others will always be what’s most important. Since then, I’ve continued in my photography career, but have also ventured into website design, brand design, and social media marketing, and no matter what I’ve pursued, treating others the way you’d want to be treated has been the key to doing good business. I truly believe clients can tell if you have integrity from that very first email or click on your website, and that’s what sets my brand apart!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is filled with the most unique experiences, and being from Ohio, I appreciate all the little spots it offers. Some of my favorite food spots include Cloak and Petal, The Waverly, 264 Fresco, and Ding Tai Fung. La Jolla is an obvious “must-see” for new friends visiting, but I also love Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Encinitas for a relaxed day walking around. For a day out, the Wildlife Safari Park and SeaWorld are incredible and so much fun!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
From the first time I picked up a camera, my mom and sister were my biggest cheerleaders. My mother, Connie Augustine, who is a very successful CPA, taught me all the ins and outs of business. I have acquired so much wisdom because of her. My sister, Ashley Thompson, spent so much time helping me start and scale my business early on. She showed up to sessions and weddings, making my clients’ experiences all the more wonderful, and she’d take time out of her day to help grow my business through online marketing on Pinterest and Instagram. Now that I’m married to my husband, Hayes, he continues to be a constant support system alongside my mom and sister, encouraging me to pursue my dreams wherever it takes me!
