We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bianca, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks can open life up to incredible possibilities. Although it may sound cliché, there really is so much to learn and gain from taking risks. For me personally, for example, I had to make the decision to move to a totally different state in order to boost my singing opportunities. When I noticed that my life felt as if it was at a standstill, I knew that I had to take more drastic measures in order to gain a sense of fulfillment and take advantage of life. It’s frightening at first to make that decision. But you realize after you make the decisions that it really isn’t so bad, and in fact, it’s actually exciting. Although it doesn’t mean that you eliminate all of your challenges in life, you do feel a sense of achievement, strength, and even empowerment in taking these risks. You realize just what you’re capable of, and perhaps, begin to feel inspired to challenge yourself further. You realize that there’s so much more out there when you make a decision to step out of your comfort zone. Even in the midst of any possible “mistakes”, you can take them as lessons, and you gain a lot of wisdom on your journey. Either way, that sense the fulfillment can be incredibly gratifying and you can live your life with less wonder of “what if?”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a singer in South Florida. I sing at many corporate and private events as well as local venues in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, West Palm Beach, and more. I am also a songwriter and work on my own music.
I am not a native to South Florida, though. I am actually a born and raised New York Puerto Rican (aka Nuyorican!) from the Lower East Side of New York City. I truly was at Inner-city kid that hoped for the opportunities to be able to perform and sing for the world. as a child, I did not have the privilege to go to fancy music schools to enhance my dancing and singing abilities. So I relied on watching concerts on TV and music videos from my favorite artists including Michael Jackson, Babyface, TLC, and Backstreet Boys, just to name a few. I spent a lot of time at home, studying the songs, and trying to emulate the ways that they would dance and perform. but one of the challenges that I really faced was severe anxiety and OCD. It had been incredibly debilitating and would impact my courage to sing in front of an audience. It would also impact my self confidence and view of my self worth. Back then, it was not addressed as it wasn’t viewed as a problem. However, it caused me to feel incredibly and painfully alone. Being an artist itself can be a lonely journey as many people may not understand this journey of creative immersion. Its even more lonesome to struggle with your mental health as a child. It would sadly continue into adulthood and become and even bigger struggle. I felt I had this shell that I didn’t know how to break out of. And the stress of it was completely overwhelming. But I always knew that I needed to fight through and work through it so I could feel like my best self and live my authentic life as the artist I know I’m meant to be. in someway, this does tie into me, deciding to take risks, because I know the feeling of being held back, even by my own mental health. It takes much more effort than the average person, but it is 100% possible! I would hope that others who struggle the same way, would really understand that life can be limitless, and there is a sense of joy, fulfillment, and excitement that life can offer outside of the shell of mental health that they struggle with. Knowing that even today there are challenges that I’m working through, it feels so good to know that I can challenge these barriers and strive for a wonderful life doing what I love and feeling great about it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town, I would take her to one of the awesome restaurants that have a cool ambience (many restaurants, here have the best ambience, decor, and food!) and give them that chill, fun south Florida experience. I would then take them to the beach to enjoy the blue water and white sand and grab a piña colada along the way. In the evening, I would bring them to one of my awesome gigs to enjoy the music, dance, and have a great time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my husband for his love and support! Thank you for always encouraging me to persevere and strive towards my goals everyday. I love you.
