We had the good fortune of connecting with Beshoy Selimand we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beshoy, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I began photography I knew I wanted to become a photographer. But, I knew I did not want to become just a photographer, but a photographer that is an artist. Growing up whether it be in Egypt or America, I saw lots of beautiful landscapes all over the world. With that said I wanted to integrate the beautiful landscapes with beautiful couples to create an artistic canvas that embodied and accentuated the beauty of both.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others:
I never looked at other photographers’ work. I always focused on improving myself and my art. I constantly had a target to become one of the top international wedding photographers. My art aesthetic is unique to me and my couples.
What I am most proud of:
I am proud and thankful for being awarded multi-international awards. Couples bring me from around the world to capture their special day. I also photographed one of the most luxurious weddings in Pelican Hill in Newport Beach.
How I got to where I am today. Was it easy? How did you overcome the challenges?
I am an overall humble person. I never take anything for granted. I never changed no matter how much fame and money I received. I never stopped loving what I do. Not a wedding goes by where I feel like I am working. No, it was not easy. There were always challenges along the way. I’ve cried. I’ve had meltdowns. I have even deleted my Instagram because the closest people to me were mocking rather than being in support of my style. They did not believe in me. The way I overcame it is I tuned out anything negative criticism anyone had to say about my work. I had a horse’s field of vision and only accepted positive criticism and feedback. I started to focus on my dreams, goals, and myself.
What are the lessons you have learned along the way?
Not to ever depend on anyone but myself.
Never give up.
Never listen to negative feedback.
Sometimes you take 10 steps back in the process, but that is okay because you just have to focus on taking 20 steps forward in the next step.
What do you want the world to know about you and your brand and story?
Beshoy Selim is a luxurious, humble international brand that creates frozen art.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my success to first and foremost God. Secondly, my wife Dalia.
God because he gave me artistic talent. He also gifted me with the confidence and the perseverance to succeed. God gifted me with the ability to be a “people” person. As humans, we tend to burn out and not constantly have the energy to keep pushing in whatever we do. When I hit that point I always feel that God puts me back on track.
Dalia, my wife because she always stood by me in the thick and thin and always believed that I can indeed succeed in becoming one of the top wedding photographers internationally.
