We had the good fortune of connecting with Bao Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bao, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to pursue my passion while having more flexibility and autonomy. I wanted to make an impact and provide full continuity of care.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. My family moved to Lansing, Michigan when I was 8 years old. I did my undergraduate at Michigan State University (5 years). Post-bacc at Florida Atlantic University (2 years). Western University Medical School in Pomona, CA ( 4 years). Residency at Chino Valley Medical Center ( 3 years). Traditionally – it takes a total of 11 years total for Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. (4 years of undergraduate, 4 years of medical school and 3 years of residency). It took me 14 years to become a Family Medicine Doctor. There were many bumps and failures along the way. I was also a nail technician in South Florida when I decided I wanted to do a post-bacc and apply to medical school. I was married with 2 sons (2 yo and 4yo at the time). My wife wasn’t working when I decided to go back to school. I knew the hardest step is getting started.

After I finished residency and became an attending physician – I started up Excell Integrated Medical Group summer of 2020. In a little over 3 years, we now have almost 20 Doctors, 4 Nurse Practitioners and 1 Physician Assistant. We cover about 8 acute hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, board & care and also do house visits. We also just opened our outpatient clinic right next to Garden Grove Hospital.

I am also the co-owner and Medical Director of Excell MedSpa in Huntington Beach, CA (offers botox, fillers, PDO threads, hydrafacials, microneedling, weight loss programs). I am also the co-owner of Mayweather Boxing & Fitness Long Beach and Mayweather Boxing & Fitness Irvine. We want to bring it all together – Health, Beauty & Fitness! None of it was easy. Anything is possible if you only want it bad enough! Work harder, work smarter and dream bigger!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start the morning out by taking a class either at Mayweather Boxing & Fitness Irvine or Mayweather Boxing & Fitness Long Beach. Then we can grab a bite in Long Beach or Irvine. I would then take them to Excell MedSpa in Huntington Beach for some IV hydration or get a hydrafacial. There are also plenty of nice restaurants around there on Main Street. We can go play basketball or golf later in the afternoon!

I had an amazing time in Bali. The culture and Balinese were amazing. There are so many things to do there. I would strongly recommend it if you haven’t been!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Excell Group of Companies. This includes Excell Integrated Medical Group, Excell Home Care, Excell MedSpa and Excell Integrated Clinic. Also my Mayweather Boxing & Fitness Long Beach and Mayweather Boxing & Fitness Irvine family. Special shoutout to my partner and mentor – Dr. Jennifer Ty. Most importantly my wife, Thuylien Chau, for her unending support and love.
