We had the good fortune of connecting with Averi Linch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Averi, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m a person to who loves writing things down. After I decided that the wedding industry would be my new path I got out this huge piece of paper and just started writing down ideas and dreams of what my business could be and where I dreamed it could go. When I was done with that exercise I looked at my answers, the words and ideas I wrote felt not just like a generic business, but a client experience. I knew that I wanted my company to not only to represent me – which is why I chose to name it something with the initials J and L. I wanted to create something with a personal connection by using a whimsical take on my maiden and married names that allowed others to be invited into the vision I was creating.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I come from a fine arts background. I went to a performing arts college and studied costume and makeup design. After college I went to cosmetology school which lead me to becoming licensed and from there I worked for years until I became a master stylist, educator and brand ambassador.

As a hairstylist and makeup artist, I’ve worked with many brides and grooms and have heard many stories. As I was developing my systems and service packages for Jasper and Lane Events, I knew that I had to do something to incorporate my skills from the beauty industry. I understand that Pinterest doesn’t just happen. Not just from a wedding designers point of view, but for the hair and makeup artists. I’ve had many clients sit in my chair telling me horror stories about how they hated their hair or cried over their makeup because of what someone else did on the day of the event. It’s so easy to blame the technician, but I’ve always wondered, did the client really have realistic expectations or know how to help the stylist by doing some home care beforehand. I knew with my clients, I could offer a solution.

While I no longer do hair and makeup professionally, I do offer consultations with my clients covering 4 key areas: hair, skin care, makeup and wedding style. I give my clients the tools to effectively communicate with their hair and makeup artist to create the look that they are going for and give tips to help prepare for their event as well as recommendations about the best places to go or vendors to see based of their goals.

In the wedding world, I have a unique prospective due to my theatre and beauty background. I love that I get to combine my talent for design, my organizational skills in planning and put my cosmetology license to use.
