We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a young woman, I saw everyone around me working themselves to the bone. I believed that it was the only way to be. I started working at 15, and by the time I was 30, I was questioning everything. The traditional “9-5” path no longer suited the path I had started to explore, so I realized that I needed something different. I needed my work to mean something to me rather than just exiting to make someone else rich and impactful.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a life coach. I completed my certification program in June of 2021, but I continued to be an employee so my practice was neglected. The Growth Experience was established as a coaching resource that focuses on self-love as the root of all things. I want to be the person that I needed during my time as a young, budding queer woman. I have overcome so many challenges in my life, and that’s why I know that I’m right where I should be. I decided to take the leap from corporate employee to entrepreneur and I will never turn back. I’m just starting out on that journey and I’m already so much happier and more fulfilled than I ever have been.
Happiness and peace are the objectives. My divorce is one of the best things to ever happen to me. I didn’t know myself before that, and now I’m learning so many new things with each passing moment.
My collective life experiences have put me in the unique position of growing beyond my wildest dreams….I want to help others achieve that level of growth, on their own terms, and in their own way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am originally from South Carolina, but I’ve lived in San Diego for almost a decade. My best friend has visited me several times, and I love having her here! Last time she visited, I took her to Cafe 21 (Gaslamp) for brunch because they have the freshest, most delicious small plates and drinks. We also hiked Cowles Mountain, visited Hillcrest, walked through a farmer’s market, and enjoyed time at OB (We like the proximity to the dog beach). She has also been here during PRIDE, seen the nightlife, and had many meals at many different restaurants. There are endless things to do in San Diego. It’s one of my favorite things about this city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my late mother for her dedication to her family, her career, and her individuality. I want to shoutout my grandmother for her resilience, unwavering support, and love for me even when I wasn’t the easiest to love. I want to shoutout my partner for being incredibly supportive and loving. She’s my biggest cheerleader. An additional shoutout to my tribe! They lift me up and fill my heart and spirit with so much love!
