We had the good fortune of connecting with Atur & George Gilou and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Atur & George, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Bethel House Garden impacts the community in a healthy and positive manner. Our organic garlic dips offer nutritional value towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle, being that they are organic, vegan, non-gmo, and preservative free. We love donating our products to various people, groups, and churches.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2015, we decided to start a local San Diego food business. We started this family business to contribute towards promoting good health. Our family tradition has always been about embracing a healthy lifestyle, and our appreciation for fine gourmet food is derived from our mother’s Mediterranean home cooked meals. The idea of the business transpired from a homemade garlic dip that our mother has been making since we were young children. This is how Bethel House Garden LLC., came into birth.

However, starting a business and working full-time jobs has not been an easy task for us. There have been many challenges and setbacks along the way that have required plenty of patience, perseverance, and commitment. Everything that we have learned about starting and managing a business has not come without hard work and determination. Once you establish your business vision, quitting is not an option. From the time we began the business, our family has had to make numerous changes and adjustments, not to mention profit losses from failed ideas. Our personal business structure is family owned and operated, self-funded, manufacturing and packaging each individual product. We personally manage all our business marketing, advertising, and social media accounts. Finally, all the hard work is paying off and will only get better from here. Despite all the challenges and oppositions, we have faced together as a family, starting Bethel House Garden LLC., has been an amazing life experience. Investing in your own business is investing in your future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would take them to either Torrey Pines Beach or La Jolla Shores for some fun in the sun. We would visit Javier’s La Jolla, Jake’s Del Mar, George’s at the Coves, and The Shores Restaurant in La Jolla,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, we want to give a shout out to mama Maryam. Our mother has been making this garlic dip since we were children. Influenced by her original authentic homemade garlic dip, my brother and I decided to create our own unique flavors and introduce them to the food market industry. Most importantly., we want to thank God for igniting this idea in our heart’s and helping guide us every step of the way throughout the failures and success.
