We had the good fortune of connecting with Aspen Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aspen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
At the end of the day photography was the only thing I could see myself doing long term! I didn’t have a well thought out plan or business model, more just a love for it and the willingness and ability to try and make it happen.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love love love photography and people. I love that photos help us remember the smallest and most precious details of our lives. I love the timelessness of photos. I love being able to look at a photo and glimpse a piece of someone else’s story. I love moments, even the blurry and bright ones that aren’t composed, the real ones, the ones that make me feel something. I want to capture all of the silliness and sweetness of life in a real way. I’m so honored and thankful I get to do that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is such a fun question!
I would want to spend lots of time near the water showing her the beautiful coast, whether it be hiking at Torrey Pines, snorkeling in La Jolla, or trying to surf in Coronado! I would want to spend a day in Laguna and stroll through the cute shops and get a coffee and then go lay at the beach! I would also want to take her to San Clemente and go get the yummiest lunch at Active Culture and coffee from Sur Coffee and then go thrifting at Kathy’s Casita, and I can’t forget a stroll on the pier! I would show her around La Jolla and maybe even go kayaking! I would taker her to Little Italy on Saturday for the Farmer’s Market! I would taker her to Cabrillo at Point Loma for a hike and then get lunch at Liberty Station. Last but not least take the ferry to Coronado and bike around! I would also want to taker her to all my favorite coffeeshops like Moniker General, Sur Coffee, Clayton’s Bakery & Bistro, Brick & Bell, and Better Buzz!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely have to shoutout my husband and family for supporting in me, believing in me, and encouraging me as well as my best friend who continually cheers me on and answers all my photography questions!
