We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashton Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashton, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I thought for sure that a top-notch, savvy strategy would be the key to my success. But overtime, I’ve learned that it’s about so much more. Strategy doesn’t determine your success as a Founder. Your ability to adapt, grow as a leader, and expand personally is. Long-term success isn’t about the complexity of the strategy or approach you bring to the table. Sure, that’s a part of it. But long-term success is built alongside a strong individual, resiliency, and deep, profound connection to a big-picture vision.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2016, I dove head first into entrepreneurship. I began my career as a Lifestyle Blogger and fairly quickly expanded into a Print Publication designed to foster authenticity, transparency, and worthiness in women all over the world. Over time, I realized my passion for business development, community, and ultimately helping women amplify their vision, mission, and profits to create ultimate impact in their community. This led me to found The Awakening, a community and education platform for Soulful Businesswomen.

Upon the inception of our brand, I was committed to gaining tracking — and quickly. So, I decided to make a pretty large investment into an ads and funnels expert in order to prioritize lead capture and conversion. At this stage, we hadn’t turned a profit, so this investment was put on a credit card. Upon signing, we were promised to make the investment back at a minimum, but of course we could expect more. We didn’t make a single penny. This was the first big risk I’d taken as a Founder, and it flopped. I had to make a choice: give into fear, stay stuck, and give up OR go back to the drawing board, learn from the experience, and pave the way forward. It wasn’t easy, but I would never regret the decision to continue on.

This company started with nothing. No clients, no community, no money. We built it from the ground up. Today, we serve hundreds of entrepreneurs all over the world in over a dozen countries. It isn’t easy work, but it is rewarding work. We’re doing so much more than expanding brands and profits. We are helping women in business own their power and voice like never before. So that ultimately, they don’t just transform the world we live in today. But they transform generations of the future.

One of the distinct differentiators about our company is our intentional emphasis on long-term, long-lasting impact — not just on businesses, but lives. One of our clients shared this feedback with us: “You are a great leader. You guided me to change my own life, change our family’s life, change our next generation’s life. And many more after that.” The movement we’ve created and the work we do goes so far beyond short term growth and success. It plants roots that change the trajectory of lives and businesses well beyond today. We focus on legacy-foundations.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to take them to the following spots:

Sola Coffee – Our favorite local coffee shop. It’s cozy, cute, delicious, and everyone who works there is so kind.
Vederi Chocolate Factory – Where you can eat hand made chocolate and take a tour of this facility
Brewery Bhavana – This spot is one of our favorite places to eat around here! They have the most delicious bao.
Azitra – for a good Indian food moment
Farina – for a good Italian moment, located in a beautiful spot called Lafayette Village. It’s designed to look like a little European city with food, shops, and more!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a shadow of a doubt, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance, empowerment, and belief of my parents. They always taught me that life wouldn’t be easy, but I can do anything. I could make anything out of my life — and even more so than that, it is my responsibility to do so. To use my time wisely and intentionally while I’m on this earth. They taught me to believe big and take action. To get back up when I fell down. They taught me resiliency.
