We had the good fortune of connecting with Asha Mody and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
RISK: Taking a risk opens up an entire new world of possibilities for you. It makes you feel like there is no end to your passion. Taking a risk is the best way to overcome your own weaknesses and confusions. Personally, taking a risk actually makes me feel more confident about my own abilities and make me feel good about the things I can achieve in life. I took a risk by changing my career from accounting to design. For marrying an unknown person through arrange marriage in 1 month time from first meet to get married and country change. I took the risk of closing down my business, leaving my family in India and coming on H4 visa (no work permit) with my life partner. In my career I negotiated a job offer. I stood steady on my ground and offered to work for the company I wanted to (Chosen Foods) instead of choosing what they offer. Which gave me fulfillment to work on my passion (food + design) and grow. Taking a good risk to come prepared with a way to solve the problem for the projects. Saying NO to a full time job offer and pursue my dream of building my own brand studio.

What should our readers know about your business?
Asha Mody is a mindfulness-driven brand strategist for entrepreneurs. Through work with clients from global brands to solo business owners, she found a boutique brand studio Mindsy (pronounced “Mīnd-see”) in Sunny San Diego. She believes in empowering superb humans to do what they love: mindfully bring goodness into the world. Hope is to build mindful brands that have a positive impact on this and upcoming generations. Studio: Our name is a nod to what we believe in: Mindsy (pronounced “Mīnd-see”) provides a mindful, conscious approach to each of our clients. We honor your stories, desires, strengths, history, and work hard to align all aspects of the business to manifest a brand that you and your customers both love and believe in. We don’t use one-size-fits-all formulas for our clients. Instead, we harness the power of intuition & expertise to elevate business beyond the ordinary. We are a boutique company that does not advertise, we rely on word of mouth, and are known for building purpose-led brands and delivering impactful finished products in the food and wellness industry. We keep a very lean operation with no unnecessary managers or hierarchy, so clients always work directly with lead strategists and designers. To empower people to live life to the fullest, so that together we can grow and prosper. I aim to be a brand partner with startups and small to midsize businesses and help them see their full potential. In particular, my aim is to support women entrepreneurs who are tangled up in 9-5 jobs and are having a hard time achieving their dreams. I want to give them the tools they will need to bring their vision to life. I will do this by providing consultation around brand development. This will include brand strategy workshops, workshops around identity design as well as a packaging design. Excited for our upcoming signature webinars and Brand Soul series. Challenges: From India, I moved to the USA to be with my husband. I was on an H4 visa, which means I was not allowed to work and had to put my business dreams on hold. I had to rely on my strong faith and power of positivity to get me through. My husband was very supportive and encouraged me to go to evening college while he took care of our kids. I was able to meet new people and keep up with my software knowledge until I was able to get my work permit – which eventually took 10 years! I had dreams beyond being a housewife and a mom. I signed a petition for providing employment permits for the H4 spouses and wrote a letter to President Obama in the White house. I shared the fact that I was wasting my education and abilities in this country and requested that his administration provide work permits to the spouses on H4 visas, which would contribute to the US economy. I finally got my work permit in 2015. Lesson learned: Believe in yourself. YOU ARE ENOUGH! The power of proximity and momentum is the key to success.
