We had the good fortune of connecting with Ash Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ash, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Right now and over the past few years we are really witnessing a rallying of people wanting to support small owned or women owned businesses. I think that is amazing and a big part of what pushed me to think that I can create something others will be inspired to support. I thought, if I can wake up each day and do something I enjoy, have time for travel and to eventually raise a family, that is something I will work my butt off for. To me, creating that kind of freedom in my life while pursing a passion I cared about was the dream. It was a risk. I left a very secure and well paid job to make art. Some may say that is crazy but ultimately, if you have the chance to live true to yourself, you should absolutely take it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The biggest thing that sets my art apart is that I use ropes. This brings elements of texture and movement not normally seen, giving my clients a very unique piece in the end. Learning what materials to use and creating dye methods for my pieces has taken a long time and I am always trying to learn new methods. The thing that helped me the most was to make as many pieces as possible and to keep trying different products. Love & Fiber is all about creating unique fiber art for homes. My goal is to help bring color and happiness into my clients spaces and give them something that feels special when they look at it hanging.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
oh gosh, you shouldn’t ask me this because I love building Itineraries! If you come out here there are a few places you can’t skip! We have awesome hikes! Torrey Pines, Mission Trails or even hitting up the beach boardwalks on Mission Beach. We often paddle board on Mission Bay or go for a stroll with the dogs through Balboa Park. Little Italy is our FAVORITE place for food and drinks. You can just walk around and hope from place to place, they even have a little wine house. In the summer, The Hotel Del Beach is so much fun and has a beach front lounge area. My breakfast go to spot is Richard Walkers, literally the best coffee. We have great workout classes too, like my favorite spin studio, PURE, in downtown. Last thing I would do is spend a weekend up the freeway in Temecula for wine tasting at all the wineries, cannot go wrong with that!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My amazing husband Tony! He supported us while I built my company. He helped me grow Love & Fiber by making connections into the wholesale world, where now I can even offer the rope I use to other artists. He is always pushing me to grow and do more. To have a person who can not only see your potential but push you towards it, is amazing and irreplaceable.
