Meet April Laster | Black Female Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with April Laster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be one of humility, greatness and survival. i would hope people remember my resilient attitude and my ability to rise above any occasion meant to tear me down. I want them to remember that grace and forgiveness has to be extended to everyone for growth. During trying times we have to remember everyone is built with a indicator of just how much they can endure and its not for others to determine that measure that amount.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well i own a few businesses here in San Diego and to say the least i have thoroughly enjoyed being a black female entrepreneur In my nonprofit i get to exercise my ability to help others navigate through life with proper help and assist in maintaining the mental health in the process of it. With my media company i am excited to be giving a voice to those who are not afraid of being heard. What sets me apart from everyone else is i am a true visionary and what God gives me in mind i usually will execute in person. I am most proud of my capability to bounce back. I reached the status of where i am today by trusting, praying and believing in God. The hardest part about my businesses is the discipline that it takes to set boundaries. By not setting boundaries allows others to invade your peace.I want the world to know that Open Heart Leaders and Lady A Media was created with them in mind before i even met them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to eat at Breakfast Bitch, then i would take them to the beach to see the waves and the seals. While making plans for lunch at Surf and Soul. After that i would make sure they see all the beaches and views from the mountain tops. Dinner would be at Louisiana Purchase this is after we hit up Las Americas mall near the border. After seeing all in San Diego i would definitely plan a day trip to LA and do the garment district and the Alleys.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my best friend, coach and sister Shirley Austin. Shirley has been such a pillar in my life with wisdom and extended grace in my shortcomings as a best friend. She brings me back full circle in acceptance and accountability. Shirley has been there for me through some of the worst moments of my life and has shared and seen some of the best moments of my life. She is truthfully a life saving friend. Her ability to speak on the things i never disclose or want to talk about is crazy and thats even more of the reason i love her so much. She breaks the mold for the term Best Friend this is why she has and will always be my Family.
