Meet Anya Kalia | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anya Kalia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anya, why did you pursue a creative career?
I always knew from a very young age that I wanted to be an actor. It is something that has always stuck with me when growing up. From pretending to do interviews to practicing scripts in my room, I knew I wanted to do this forever. I remember taking my first acting class, I was filled with excitement! I would always pretend I had so many jobs, but as I grew up I lost interest in a lot of them, except acting was the one job that still interested me. I have always been a creative person, it is something that drives and motivates me to never give up. Having the most supportive parents I could ask for is definitely a bonus! I like the fact that acting is able to tell a story that you can share with your audience around the world. I think the whole aspect of getting the experience of being a “whole different person” while playing a role is so worth it. Working with people in this industry is so incredible as everyone always has the best attitude and is so gifted.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey of acting is still evolving as I get to learn something new from every different set, each time. All different projects are a whole new experience. Getting to where I am today has definitely come with a lot of obstacles. Staying consistent is key as this industry is full of rejection. You will most likely get a lot more “no’s” than a “yes.” Never compare your story to somebody else’s as one may have a much easier time breaking into this career field. I have learned that there are many different projects involved with acting being made every single day, so never doubt yourself that you can’t book one. It will certainly happen! The results for sure pay off as once on set, I am super eager for the job, knowing all of the hard work I put in has been rewarding.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would certainly take my best friend to a lot of different places as San Diego has many things to explore. One of the very first places I would take them is to Hotel del Coronado as personally, that is my favorite place to go. It is an amazing beach resort. Especially during the winter time, there is so many different things to do such as ice skating and seeing all of the holiday decorations. At Coronado island, we would eat at the Village Pizzeria as I enjoy their delicious pizza. Another place I would go to with my best friend is the La Jolla Cove as seeing the sea lions and seals are so fun! Taking a little trip to the San Diego Zoo is awesome too as there are so many animals to go and see. It is an experience my friend will hopefully remember for a very long time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always been so supportive of my dreams. When I first told them I wanted to start acting, I was nervous that my wishes would get destroyed, but instead they were the sweetest about it. Even now if I ever get demotivated, they continue to encourage me no matter what. They are the best mentors ever. I could not ask for better parents! Without them, I do not know what I would do. When I first began acting, I was confused about a lot of aspects, so I remember one night my parents researched all I needed to know about what I was stuck on. I am eternally grateful for that. A lot of child actors also inspire me as they are around my age fulfilling the same interests of mine!
