We had the good fortune of connecting with Anisa Mudawar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Bigger is not better. Working as a nurse practitioner cosmetic injector in the top 3 medspas in SoCal however, told me otherwise. There is constantly a push to inject more product which incentivized the pay of injectors. This ideology funded their businesses but stripped my autonomy, creativity and aesthetic eye for natural beauty. I am grateful for this experience though as it allowed me to study injectables and understand that if they’re provided strategically and conservatively, you can enhance one’s features instead of distort it.
Medical injectables is an art form, and just like everyone can’t paint the Mona Lisa, not everyone should be an aesthetic injector. I truly believe every person has beauty and I discovered that I had a talent of being able to enhance their already beautiful features. Unfortunately, my aesthetic eye and skills were limited while big brother was watching over me, pushing me to oversell and push more product. It was these ideals, motivation to mastering natural beauty in medical aesthetics, and using my needle as a paintbrush that led me to believe that if I wanted to provide better results to my patients and grow as an injector, I would need to be on my own. Ultimately, this gave rise to Beauty Boost Med Spa; where we simply “boost your beauty, not augment it.”

What should our readers know about your business?
Direction overcomes adversity every time. I was the youngest in the country to graduate with my doctorate as a nurse practitioner (DNP) at the age of 25. Having always known what I wanted to do, I pursued my goals relentlessly. I racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in nursing school loans, sacrificed my young social life, and spent 9 long years studying at 2 different universities to get it and I’d do it all over again! In my practice, you are not a number, you are me fifteen years ago. Just a girl wanting to have a bit more confidence in her looks with a little touch up. My practice is built in the exact way I would want to be treated. Too many times I’ve been on the receiving end of that experience and now that I’m in control, I’m gonna make sure it’s tailored toward each individual that steps through. Each person is different and deserves an experience catered to their wants and needs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My perfect day to show a friend around would have to start at one of the newest and cutest breakfast spots in Newport, OEB. They’re chilaquiles are to die for! Then head over to Fashion Island for some retail therapy we all know and love. After that, I’d have to take them to Pelican Hill for some nice chill time by the pool while taking in the views of the Newport Beach coast. To end the night, I would take them to dinner at Javiers. They have the best margaritas with chips and salsa on the side!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give my first shoutout to my parents for being the best role models and cheerleaders along the way. I also couldn’t do it without my Beauty Boost team, it’s always joint effort together! Lastly, the UCI Department of Plastic Surgery, specifically my mentor Dr. Garrett Wirth. Thank you, thank you!
