Meet Angie Monic Barba | Esthetician & Owner of In the Nude Skincare

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Monic Barba and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angie Monic, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When the world shut down during the pandemic, it allowed me to slow down and reflect on the things I always wanted to pursue. As a young adult, I struggled with cystic acne that made me feel insecure and too embarrassed to leave the house. After multiple dermatologist visits, I only became more frustrated when no improvements were made. To pursue my own business in esthetics gives me the opportunity to help people strengthen their confidence and to forever feel beautiful in their bare skin.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others in my industry are all the personal touches and attention to detail I carry throughout my clients journey with me. One of the secret little touches my guests have loved when visiting In the Nude Skincare are the love notes I’ve hidden in a vintage phone booth. While I aim to deliver amazing skin treatments, I also pride myself in making sure the experience is top notch from the moment the client books an appointment to a few days after the treatment. The experience doesn’t just stop once they leave the spa, I make sure every client receives a follow up email with a custom plan including product recommendations, daily routines, and skin tips to help them achieve their skin goals.
I’ve worked really hard building a spa that feels inviting but also shows little touches of my own persona. It’s important to me that I build personal connections with each of my clients because when it comes to skin revision I know how hard it is to let your guard down and trust someone with your skin. Once I’ve made the client feel comfortable on the treatment bed it makes it that much easier for me to educate them on the process of the treatment and skincare routines to practice at home.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego is a beautiful place! Some of my favorite places to take visitors are:
Locations: Gaslamp / Old Town / Little Italy / Normal Heights
Food: Venice Pizza / Rosa’s Ice Cream / Mucha Fruta / Family’s House of Pancakes / Tacos El Gordo
Activities: Theatre Box Movies / Mission Bay / Local Farmer’s Markets / Lips Drag Show

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business will not be where it is today without the support of my community. I’m thankful every day for my close friends and family members who have cheered me on from the very beginning. Also, for my clients who trust me with their skin and continue to visit me every month. Pursuing this business in esthetics gives me the opportunity to help people strengthen their confidence and to forever feel beautiful in their bare skin. It’s amazing to see how many people believe in the beauty of my work and the power of self-care. Not only do they keep me going, but, they keep me motivated to push harder for bigger goals.
