We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie C. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m going to be completely honest– there wasn’t ANY thought process . Eversince the birth of photo social media apps in 2011– my goal was to share my art; Food is my art . Id share photos of meals I’ve cooked, to pics of my pretty drinks at a bar– I quickly fell in love with the capturing the art of drool-worthy food photos . After a few years, I started to have a steady gain of new followers who would ask me for the recipe, where they can find that pretty drink, and even share their local favs on where I should eat at next; eventually my personal online food diary turned into a community of fellow foodies and I loved everything about it . Fast forward to 2020– I jokingly downloaded a video social media app and taught myself to how to edit videos for fun– and that was the start of drool-worthy food videos and my food blog– AngielaEats.com .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If I surround you with food in any type of way, thats me showing affection– food is my love language .

My ultimate goal is for underrated cultural dishes to gain exposure and for picky-eaters to be a little more open-minded . I want to share diversity, how unique&amazing food is from all around the world, and how you can easily replicate this dishes in the comfort of your own home– mainly in your airfryer lol . My blog– AngielaEats.com shares cooking videos and written instructions on how to recreate these dishes, along with plenty other delicious appetizers and easy meal ideas .

My photo sharing social media app focuses primarily on foodie eats in San Diego/so cal . I also love sharing foodie travel itineraries, events happening in the city, and the latest grocery store finds !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was in town visiting San Diego tomorrow, this is what the day would look like:

9am Brunch in Convoy area– dim sum, pho, or there’s even a pancake house . Then grab boba from The Alley, 85 degree bakery for a Taiwanese sweet treat, or MNGO cafe if you love mango desserts .

12pm Mission beach to catch some sun, explore all the small shops, and Belmont Park before grabbing some more cocktails at bites overlooking the rooftop view at Cannonball SD ! Im talking seafood, sushi, and mai tai’s baby !

6pm Finish the evening off in Little Italy . The vibes here are everything– great restaurants, bars, and people ! Bar LaLa is a new favorite . OG Kettner Exchange for some cocktails and rooftop bar . Juniper & Ivy or Born & Raised for a nice sit-down fancy dinner . Plenty of dessert choices . Possibilities are endless and so is the night !

10pm MEXICAN FOOD !!!! I love Lupes in Kearny Mesa (they have burritos, fries, and even micheladas) or Tacos El G for a traditional street taco– adobada is the best !

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If there was anyone behind the scenes from the very beginning, that would be my husband; He truly is my number one fan and biggest supporter . 2021 was the year I bought a house, gave birth to my son, and I worked two jobs; My career– I was a fully-booked master hair-colorist at a 5-star San Diego salon AND my social media food videos had gone so viral, I had to hire help to keep up with the bookings . I really didn’t have anytime for myself, let alone my own family; this lead me to making the hardest decision of my life:

I remember the one line of advice my husband gave me was “do you want to continue to work under someone or work for yourself?” . As much as I absolutely loved doing hair, I think I loved the conversations with my clients and coworkers more– so I left on good terms of course and focused primarily on food content creation and I’ve never been any happier . I thank my husband for having faith in me and being my backbone– even if its just him patiently waiting for me to take food photos before enjoying his dinner lol .
