Meet Angela Marysol Meza | Architectural Designer and California Native Plant Landscaper

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Marysol Meza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela Marysol, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Plants Por Favor sprouted from a curiosity that rekindled my human connection with plants. It began with caring for houseplants, blossomed into nurturing native plant gardens, and embraced everything in between. As I tended to these living beings, I discovered that by taking care of them, I was also taking care of my wellbeing. This profound feeling ignited a desire to share it with my community, giving birth to Plants Por Favor—a boutique garden center. Here, everyone can find all they need to embark on their own journey with the natural world, from essential tools to a diverse selection of plants, and even enriching workshops.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business draws its inspiration from the beauty of plants and our profound connection with the Earth. Whether it’s nurturing houseplants, tending to gardens, or crafting spaces that foster a deep bond with the natural world, Plants Por Favor embodies this ethos. While we serve as a comprehensive destination for all things gardening, our space transcends the typical retail experience. It’s a sanctuary where every living being is embraced, from the humble caterpillar to the graceful hummingbird savoring our California fuchsias.
From toddlers joyfully exploring the gravel in our garden to yoga instructors sharing their wisdom during sessions, my little corner of the world has evolved into a safe haven for all who seek it. I take immense pride in extending a warm welcome to anyone with the intention to contribute to the well-being of our Mother Earth, especially in these times when her care is more crucial than ever before.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Without playing favorites, South Park in San Diego holds a special charm that seamlessly blends a small-town vibe with proximity to city life, beaches, and the countryside. I’d be thrilled to offer an in-depth tour of this wonderful neighborhood.
Our journey would commence with a delightful breakfast at Matteo for a Cause, a nonprofit restaurant with a heart for local charities—a perfect way to kick off our adventure. After savoring a latte from Dark Horse Coffee, we’d take a short stroll to The Book Catapult, a beloved bookstore where we can explore a treasure trove of titles.
For a unique shopping experience, we’d visit some of the cutest, woman-owned boutiques in the area, including Bad Madge, Thread and Seed, Gold Leaf, Angelica Beauty, and Ayi. And no shopping excursion in South Park would be complete without a visit to Vinyl Junkies, the renowned record shop that’s a must-see.
To satisfy our sweet tooth, we’d indulge in some delectable treats at Secret Sister, known for their mouthwatering lemon goat milk glazed sourdough donuts.
Continuing our walk down Fern St., we’d stumble upon the enchanting garden center “Plants Por Favor,” where you might find yourself falling in love with California Native Plants that you simply can’t resist taking home. Next up is a visit to Native Poppy, a beautiful flower shop, where you can craft a personalized bouquet at their flower bar.
For dinner, Kindred awaits with its delicious vegan menu, followed by mocktails or drinks at Mother Ship for an out-of-this-world experience.
South Park truly offers an array of experiences that capture the essence of San Diego, making it a perfect destination for our tour.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, friends, and the community who have been unwavering in their support of my business journey from the early days of selling at pop-up events. With the establishment of Plants Por Favor, our garden center has blossomed into something far greater than a mere shop. It has become a cherished space embraced by our neighbors, transforming into a hub for wellness, community, and gatherings. I am deeply moved by the beautiful evolution of this venture and eagerly anticipate the exciting path ahead.
