We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Manzanares and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am a California girl through and through. I was born in the Bay Area, then grew up in Sacramento, and just recently moved to San Diego.

I was raised in a loving home with my mom, dad, and younger brother, Marky. My family has always been very tight-knit and I owe a lot of who I am to their love, wisdom, and support throughout my life.

Along with my family, my faith and relationship with God has had the biggest impact on my life. When I was 20, I had a life-changing moment where I felt in my heart, God challenging me with the question, “What would your life look like without any fear? What would you do if you really believed that I could do the impossible?”

In that moment, my capacity to dream expanded. Up until that point, I had planned on living the typical American dream–I was going to finish college, marry the guy I was dating at the time, get a good job, settle down, and that was about it. But for the first time in my life, I realized that there could be even more. I asked myself what I would do if I could do anything, and I envisioned myself writing books, traveling and speaking, and devoting my life to encouraging and inspiring others on a grand scale to also confront fear to discover what they were actually made for.

From that point on, I made a commitment to myself and God, that I would never let fear be the reason I didn’t do something. I started facing some of my biggest fears head-on and it completely transformed my life. I faced my fear of being single, which led me to gain independence, find my voice, and discover what I was passionate about and made to do. I overcame a fear I had of singing in front of people, which led to music and leading worship becoming a huge part of my life. I started a blog at the time, out of a passion to bring encouragement and light to the internet which can sometimes feel negative and heavy. I also started an organization called Sacramento Sisterhood, which provided a fun and uplifting space for women throughout the region to come together, make friends, and encourage one another. There are so many other opportunities I could list that came along because I decided to live life outside my comfort zone. All of this is even what inspired me to become a Life Coach. I wanted to devote my life to helping others discover what their life could look like without fear as well.

I wouldn’t be the person I am had it not been for my supportive family, encouraging friends, and God who loved me enough to show me that He made me for more than I ever dreamed of.

What should our readers know about your business?
“What would your life look like without any fear?” That is the question that changed my life, led me to become a Life Coach, and it’s what I like to challenge my clients to ask themselves.

I realized that fear is one of the top culprits that prevents people from truly living. It’s my mission to help people discover what their lives would look like without fear–what would they do? What creative ideas would they add to the world? What passions would they pursue? Who would they date? What would their relationships look like?

In my Coaching, I primarily work with Christian singles in their twenties. My passion for that demographic stems from my own story…

At 20, I had my future all mapped out–I was going to finish college, marry the guy I was dating at the time, get a good job, and that was pretty much it! I never thought of pursuing anything outside of the typical “American dream.” But like I said, one day, God spoke to me and said, “What would your life look like without any fear? I have plans for you beyond your wildest dreams, but you’re going to have to trust me with your whole heart in order for me to take you there.” That shook me to my core, and deep down I knew that in order to experience God’s better plans for my life, I needed to confront the huge fear I had of being single. I always felt like relationships gave me a sense of security, but I reached a point in my life where I knew I needed to let go of the relationship I was in. After I graduated college with a degree in psychology, I stumbled upon a woman who introduced me to the field of Life Coaching. After a few sessions with her, I knew Coaching was the avenue I wanted to take to empower other young adults to lead fearless, thriving lives.

So many people want to write off the “single” stage of life. It can feel lonely, confusing, and discouraging. But it’s my mission to help young adults see how rich and empowering this stage of life can be. I help clients get to know God and get to know themselves. Once this is in order, that gives clients a clear idea of what kind of person they want to marry someday. I help clients understand their unique purpose, qualities, and value so they stop settling for unhealthy relationships. Together we shatter fears, insecurities, and self-doubt that have been holding them back from the kind of love they deserve. I empower singles to be confident, content, and equipped to date and eventually enter into a healthy marriage someday.

I currently offer 1-on1 Coaching sessions, I have an ebook called “The Singles’ Guide” available for purchase, and I’m growing an online facebook group community where I host virtual events for Christian singles to connect from all over the world. I also love sharing content on Tiktok, and I have even more resources in the works!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m still pretty new to San Diego, but I’ve already fallen in love with so many spots!

Day 1:
For brunch, we’re either going to Parakeet Cafe, Naked Cafe, or we’re trying Breakfast Republic or Westerly in Point Loma. After that, we’d take a walk through Balboa Park and enjoy the sunshine and gorgeous scenery.
For coffee, we’re going to Communal Coffee in North Park, and I’d probably order their latte flights.
Then we’d take a walk along the bay, see the USS Midway, the famous kissing statue, and meander through Seaport Village and find a spot to eat.

Day 2:
For breakfast, we’d grab a quick avocado toast and coffee at Moniker in Liberty Station.
Then head to Coronado island and explore the shops and famous Hotel Del. For lunch, we’d hang out on the Sun Deck of the hotel, enjoy the ocean view, and then got a popsicle from Sundae’s.
Later, we’d get dinner in Little Italy (so far I’ve loved Farmer’s Table and heard great things about Civico1845 and Seneca).
To end the day, we’d head over to Sunset Cliffs to watch the sunset!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so thankful for every person that’s left a mark on my life–whether big or small. I’d love to give a special shoutout to my mom, dad, brother, Marky, my best friends, my mentors, and communities in both Sacramento and San Diego. All of these people and places have helped shape me.
