We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Villasenor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
Being present for my kids, sometimes it’s hard to shut off my work brain because I’m constantly still working from home or on the phone on my days off. My 5 year old looks forward to our “family day” where we just take the kids out of the house and be active all day with them
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I ended up going to beauty school after high school because I was always told I had a natural talent when it came to makeup and hair. I worked for a salon for my first year and surprised to find out there was more work with men’s haircutting, of course I didn’t know how and took me 3 months just watching my co workers be busy because I thought I could never do men’s haircuts, once I started in 2010 I haven’t stopped ! In 2018 a friend sold her Barber Shop to me in Fallbrook CA so I guess you can say that part was easy because It was the right timing. A year later I opened a salon next door and my career now has extended to all beauty services such as coloring, on location hair and makeup, waxing, lash extensions. Permanent makeup, and brow and lash lamination. Overall the hardest challenge was definitely COVID-19, we made it through and continued to succeed, yes our services aren’t “needed” but thankfully they’re always wanted and more so now. Something I want people to know is I truly love what I do! I enjoy seeing my clients regularly and meeting new ones is always fun!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man this is tough, cause I’m such a home body that I rather be home lol, but I definitely love a good time outdoors either at the beach, pool or having a nice cook out is always a good time. Restaurants? There’s just too many good ones to name! Winery’s and bars is always fun!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am now without the continuous love and support from my family, fiance and friends! They have been by my side since my beauty school days letting me practice, til this day too !
