We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Tarpein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, how does your business help the community?
Our advocacy work has inspired changes that ripple beyond the travel industry, promoting awareness and understanding of the diverse needs of families with disabilities. By fostering a culture of inclusivity and empathy, Elijah’s Baby Bucket List significantly impacts both the community and the broader world. Our platform serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for families navigating the complexities of travel with medical, sensory, and mobility challenges. We provide invaluable resources that empower these families to explore the world with confidence, turning what might seem like insurmountable obstacles into opportunities for joy and discovery.

Through our advocacy efforts, we collaborate with travel destinations and industry leaders to implement meaningful changes that enhance accessibility. This not only benefits our community but also raises awareness about the importance of inclusive practices within the travel industry. Our work encourages businesses to prioritize accessibility, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond individual journeys. People all over the world are now focusing on accessibility wherever they are.

By sharing authentic stories and experiences, we cultivate a supportive community where families can connect, share, and find strength in one another. This nurturing environment builds a network of resilience and understanding, inspiring others to embrace travel as a source of healing and happiness. In doing so, we contribute to a more compassionate and accessible world, where every family has the chance to create cherished memories, regardless of their circumstances.

What should our readers know about your business?
Elijah’s Baby Bucket List is a heartfelt initiative that stands out in the realm of family travel by focusing on accessibility and inclusivity for not only families with unique medical needs but an aging society. Our mission is to make the world more accessible for everyone, inspired by my son Elijah’s journey with Lissencephaly, a rare terminal brain condition. This journey is not just about exploring destinations but about creating meaningful memories and advocating for a more inclusive world where others can do the same.

What sets us apart is our personal and authentic storytelling. We share real-life experiences and challenges faced by families like ours, offering practical resources and insights that empower others to embark on their own adventures. Our platform is not just a blog; it’s a community where families can connect, share, and support each other, reducing feelings of isolation and fostering a sense of belonging.

Getting to where we are today has been far from easy. We’ve faced numerous challenges, from car troubles to navigating accessible travel with medical equipment to misinformation on online about accessibility to raising awareness about the importance of inclusivity. However, each obstacle has been an opportunity for growth and learning. We’ve learned the power of resilience, the importance of community, and the impact of sharing our story with honesty and vulnerability.

I’m most proud of the initiative my kids have taken on this journey, the community we’ve built, and the positive changes we’ve inspired in the travel industry. Our collaborations with destinations to improve accessibility have made a tangible impact, creating more inclusive experiences for families everywhere.

The world should know that Elijah’s Baby Bucket List is more than a travel resource; it’s a beacon of hope and empowerment. Our story is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the belief that every family deserves the joy of exploration, regardless of the challenges they face. Through advocacy, storytelling, and community engagement, we aim to inspire a movement toward a more inclusive and accessible world for all.

First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, especially Elijah and his siblings(The Mini-Humans), who have embraced every adventure with open hearts and incredible enthusiasm. Their love, resilience, and joy are the driving force behind everything we do.

To everyone who has ever bought me a coffee, sent us love and encouragement, or simply shared a moment of kindness—thank you. Your small acts of generosity have fueled not just our spirits but also our journey. It’s these gestures that remind us of the power of community and the profound impact we can have on one another’s lives, no matter how small the action may seem.

I also want to acknowledge the countless families who have shared their own stories and experiences with us. Your courage and openness have created a tapestry of support and solidarity that lifts us all. Those who have traveled with us or attended one of our retreats. Together, we’ve built a community that celebrates the power of inclusion, the beauty of shared journeys, and the best game of Go Fish ever!

A special thank you to the travel destinations and organizations that have collaborated with us to make accessible travel a reality. Your commitment to inclusivity has been pivotal in expanding the horizons for not only families with unique needs but an aging society.

Lastly, a nod to the authors and storytellers whose words have inspired me to keep writing and advocating. Books like “The Road Less Traveled” have reminded me of the strength found in forging our own paths and the impact of sharing our stories with the world. Also, “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero has been motivational, encouraging me to embrace my inner strength and pursue my passions fearlessly. These works, alongside many others, have fueled my determination to make a difference and to continue advocating for accessibility and inclusivity in all aspects of life
