Meet Amelia Mirabello | Celebrity Wedding Makeup Artist & Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia Mirabello and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amelia, why did you pursue a creative career?
I struggled deeply with mental health in my teenage years. Deep down I knew that I was put here on Earth for a greater purpose. I realized that much of the life I was living was self serving and the only way to heal wounds from the past would be to help and serve others. I challenged myself to work in special education and volunteered over 300 hours towards special olympics & unified sports. What I learned in those experiences, amongst others, was that I can improve the quality of life for someone else and in turn it improves mine.
In college, I studied education and psychology with the pursuit to help others. At the same time, I started my makeup business, originally as a side job, which involved a coping mechanism that worked for me, (Art Therapy). I soon realized that as a makeup artist, I use both my formal art and psychology education daily. I find myself establishing trusting relationships with my clients, allowing them to express vulnerabilities, insecurities and stressors.
This perfect blend of passions has lead me to a full time career that I love, and my mission as a makeup artist is to continue to empower my clients everyday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am really proud of the environment that I create for my clients. It is really important for me to get to know each client before I start the makeup application. When a client sits in my chair for the first time, I ask them various questions so that I can assess how I can create the most comfortable and desirable experience for them.
To get to where I am today professionally, I utilized the impact of networking. Establishing connections with others has always come very naturally to me. I value collaboration over competition and my mantra is, “I am not in competition with anyone”. At different events I make an effort to introduce myself to everyone involved and collect their contact information. After an event, such as a wedding, I credit each individual involved by tagging them in my social media posts. It is important for me to actively support and highlight the great work that they do, so that they know I respect and admire their talent. In addition, I refer clients to other creatives in the industry. Nourishing relationships with others has grown my business because I have received the same energy and support back.
I have learned many lessons along the way. The first lesson I learned was that failure leads to progress. Any time that I made a mistake, I learned how to manage and fix it. My problem solving skills have improved allowing me to handle situations more efficiently.
I want the world to know that I care about it to its entirety. I have grown and healed from past pain due to the support and aid of others. Now my mission is to display my appreciation through my own efforts. From picking up trash on hikes, helping the elderly bring groceries to their cars and relieving my clients of their insecurities, I really push myself to be of service in every way that I can.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town, I would take them around Nashville, TN. I have a list of places that I would bring them, depending on the vibe they are going for:
Food:
-McDougals for the best hot chicken
-Eastern Peak for the best sushi
-Fortuna Nashville for the best Italian food
Experience:
-Broadway has live music every night and Fifth & Broad has every type of food you can imagine!! also the gelato is to die for
-Grand Ole Opry Hotel (it’s a must visit.)
-Walk the pedestrian bridge downtown!!!
-Lou / Na rooftop bar at the Grand Hyatt Hotel is super pretty at night!!
-The Gulch (great food and shopping)
-The Sand Bar (sand volley ball court + bar)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
From a young age, every summer my grandmother Terry made an effort to teach me many of her skills that she developed in her 60 years as a formal Artist and hairstylist. I learned various techniques and mediums during her lessons. Her teaching approach never pressured perfection and that really allowed me to create whatever my heart desired. I credit her for my love of art and beauty.
