Meet Amanda Alba-Ferguson | Licensed Esthetician & Certified Dermatology Medical Assistant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Alba-Ferguson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been in the field of aesthetic dermatology for about 15 years and have had the opportunity to work with some truly brilliant practitioners. That’s where my passion for skincare was first sparked—especially as I was also navigating my own personal skin challenges. Over time, though, I started to feel limited in traditional clinical settings. The structure of larger practices often means less time with each client, and I found myself wanting more: more connection, more intention, and more impact.
Starting my own business was a way to take back that time and create the kind of space I always envisioned—one where clients feel heard, seen, and truly cared for. It’s not just about skincare; it’s about building trust and collaborating with each client to help them love the skin they’re in. That kind of work lights me up, and I feel incredibly grateful to do it every day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Skinfluence Esthetics started as a small but heartfelt brand with one simple goal: to help people feel confident and beautiful in the skin they’re in. More than that, I wanted to create a space where every client feels truly seen and heard—because that’s what I felt was missing in larger, fast-paced practices.
I’m proud that I took a chance on myself and my vision, even though confidence hasn’t always come easily to me. I’m often my own toughest critic. Recently, after going through some very difficult personal challenges, I had to shift my perspective and learn to be kinder to myself.
Starting my own business for the first time hasn’t been easy. Every day brings new lessons, and I’m constantly learning and growing. One thing that keeps me grounded is remembering that everything in life is temporary—the highs and the lows. I love the analogy, ‘even the strongest wave has to break,’ because it reminds me that challenges don’t last forever, and every struggle is part of the journey.
What excites me most about Skinfluence is the opportunity to build genuine, lasting relationships with my clients and to offer personalized treatments that truly make a difference in their lives. I focus on combining advanced esthetic techniques & treatments with a compassionate, client-centered approach that prioritizes education and long-term skin health.
My advice to anyone pursuing their passion is to always stay open to learning and never compare your path to someone else’s. Every story is unique, and the only competition that matters is the one with yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Pedro is truly a little gem of a town, full of charm and character. If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d start by picking up a delicious sandwich from A-1 Italian Market and heading to Royal Palms Park to enjoy it with a beautiful ocean view.
Next, we’d do some sightseeing—visiting the iconic Korean Bell of Friendship, exploring Point Fermin Lighthouse, and hiking the scenic trails around Point Vicente to take in the fresh air and stunning coastal views.
For dinner, I’d take them to one of my favorite local spots like Trani’s for a cozy, authentic meal, Raffaello’s for Italian comfort food, or Ports O’ Call/New West Harbor for fresh seafood with a waterfront atmosphere.
Evenings are perfect for a leisurely stroll down 6th Street, soaking in the local vibe, grabbing a drink or some live music, and really experiencing the heart of San Pedro.
It’s these little moments—the amazing food, breathtaking views, and welcoming community—that make San Pedro such a special place to share with friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband absolutely deserves recognition—he’s been my rock through some of the darkest chapters of my life. When life challenged me in ways I never expected—from losing my mom, to multiple miscarriages, to my battle with cancer—he was the one who helped me find the light, again and again. I truly believe he was meant to walk beside me through those storms.
One thing he’s always said to me is, ‘A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor’- Franklin D. Roosevelt. That quote stuck with me. It reminded me that the hardest seasons shape us—and he never let me forget my strength, even when I couldn’t see it myself.
He’s also been one of Skinfluence’s biggest supporters from day one. From helping me get started, encouraging me during slow seasons, hanging shelves, or telling everyone he meets they need to book an appointment—he’s been all in. I’m incredibly blessed to share my life and this journey with such an amazing man.
