Meet Allison Gill | Executive Director of the MSW Media Podcast Network

We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Gill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
One evening in October of 2017, I was watching a re-run of the MSNBC documentary called “All the President’s Men Revisited” which I assume they were airing because of the parallels between Watergate and the Mueller Investigation – which was well underway at the time. I thought to myself that in 20 years, there would likely be a documentary about the Mueller Probe. The historical significance of the Trump-Russia investigation wasn’t lost on me, and I somehow wanted to be a part of it. I noticed a gap in Mueller reporting and I wanted to create one, but I didn’t have a journalism degree or a news desk – so I did what any comedian would do – I decided to start a podcast.
I assembled a crew, purchased the necessary equipment, and when the first indictments for Paul Manafort and Rick Gates dropped that week, we recorded our first episode. Being the only place to get all the news about the Mueller Investigation, our project took off quickly and we became the premiere source for all things Trump/Russia.
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone creating content, it would be to identify a need and fill it. Even though information on the Mueller Probe was niche, we were able to corner the market on discussion about the probe by being the only place to get it, and by inviting experts to join us including former US Attorneys, people who used to work for Robert Mueller, and former Department of Justice officials.
In the early days, we had no idea the impact of what we had embarked upon, but within a year, we had created an incredible community of engaged listeners which we have been able to carry forward to our broader news podcasts. So much so, that I recently founded a network of like-minded, independent content creators and podcasters who provide a diverse and dynamic commentary on the body politic.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from most journalists and reporters is the ten years I spent as a stand-up comedian. Understanding and ingesting news and current events is important for developing an educated and informed electorate, but let’s be honest: court filings and justice news can be dry. I have found that employing comedy and reporting on justice news from a woman’s perspective gives it life and makes it palatable for public consumption.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend lives in the area, but let’s say a family member was visiting from Cleveland. I would take them to the Zoo, have lunch on the patio at The Prado in Balboa Park next to the Japanese Friendship Garden. Then we would head to the Hotel Del Coronado for some beach lounging, followed by dinner on the bay. I’d try to sneak in dinner at Mister A’s, and a cocktail at a friendly neighborhood dive like Lancer’s or Cherry Bomb. Next, we’d hit up Ortega’s Mexican Eatery followed by a dance party at Urban Mo’s in Hillcrest, and I’d close out the week with some dark wave dancing at Sabbat with DJ Drew and Robin Roth.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many considering the former administration removed me from my position in federal government after investigating my Podcast including Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, Former Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovich, Former FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok, and Author Activist Mary Trump.
