We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Monopoli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Monopoli Skin is an extension of my personal content creator page, Modern Monopoli. I have had a passion for all things skincare, hair, and beauty related as my grandfather owned a number of beauty colleges around California! Plus I have two older sisters who loved to dress me up in makeup and style my hair haha
I started to dive deeper into skincare when I suffered from hormonal acne in 2017-2020. I would walk into retail stores, spend hundreds of dollars on products, only to walk out feeling confused and frustrated. I didn’t know how to incorporate these new products into my routine. I would layer on all the products I bought not knowing you can’t incorporate some ingredients together. It made my skin more sensitive, red, and I started getting more breakouts.
My business partner and I started brainstorming and bouncing around ideas about what is missing in the skincare industry and then Monopoli Skin was then created!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Monopoli Skin was created to eliminate the guessing game of skincare, and to provide a gentle yet effective skincare routine. There are 3 skincare kits that will target different skincare needs; you can purchase 1 or all 3 for a complete skincare regimen. Each kit will have its own QR code for educational videos explaining the kits and how to incorporate each product into your routine.
I have spent the last few years customizing each product and hand picking what will go in each kit and why. I’m so excited to officially launch Monopoli Skin by the end of 2024!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oohh this is a fun one!
For brunch, we would definitely be going to Seneca, La Jolla Shores Hotel, or Cody’s! Grabbing a sandwich from Board and Brew before having a beach day! Dinner a non-negotiable is finding a reservation for Cesarina – best pasta in town and they have great gluten free options! Isola, Javiers, or Blue Ocean are next on the list.
Some fun things to do would be to go to Carlsbad Flower Fields! La Jolla Art Walk is the 1st Friday of each month from 4-7pm, and grabbing dinner and walking to the art galleries is one of my favorite things to do. The farmers markets in Little Italy and La Jolla are also great options 🙂
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been my biggest supporters! Their unwavering support, mentorship, love, and encouragement have been the foundation of my growth and success. My family has always believed in me and pushed me to be the best version of myself. I am endlessly grateful for my family!
