We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Dickson and Timothy Lynch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra Dickson and Timothy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
It is very difficult to choose just one important factor when discussing the success of Lynch Dance Institute. We have a fundamental respect and gratitude for our faculty and families and we are driven by the desire to provide the best service and present the most outstanding performances possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Life in the arts is certainly not easy! The life of a professional dancer shapes you, guides you and educates you. Our careers took us around the world. That type of exposure provided us with experience, life skills and knowledge that is rare. The tremendous skill set that one needs to navigate the successes and failures of a professional career in the arts have been the building blocks for LDI. Our journey has been rich, fulfilling and life changing. To dedicate your life to a craft that has been your passion for as long as you can remember is an incredible gift. There is not one day that goes by that Tim and I don’t feel tremendous gratitude for where we are and how we got here. LDI is a small team of exceptional educators that are inspired, intelligent, and effective. Each one of our team members goes above and beyond the average task of teaching a class. Every LDI class in any genre is a true educational experience that fosters technique yes, but also acknowledges the emotional component in the development of young humans . We are passionate about what we offer the next generation of young artists and we are excited about the possibilities to be able to create beautiful work, provide a safe authentic environment that both parents and children can feel awesome about, and stay true to what we believe in. LDI stays steady in our pursuit of excellence. We push ourselves consistently to be the best educators we can be through continuing education, professional enrichment, inviting national and international educators into the space. We share with and listen to our teams ideas and creative approaches to the work. LDI is an organization that was built on risk. We listened to our gut and continue to make decisions rooted in integrity and respect. We took the plunge in 2017 and opened LDI with the whole hearted belief that we had the ability to grow the finest training facility in Southern California. Thank you to our community for making our dreams come true.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Absolute favourite place for breakfast is Snooze in Hillcrest. Browse around in the local shops, and perhaps grab a fresh loaf or pastry at Seed and Cie. Venture over to Coronado to shop, walk along the beachfront, look at beautiful architecture and then hit up The Henry for lunch. Hike up Torrey Pines and head back to your car via the beach. La Jolla cove for a yummy meal at Brockton Villa. Poseidon on the Beach for celeb sighting and delicious food as well!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Erin and Gerry Booth and Dace and Scott Corlett of San Diego were all driving forces behind the LDI startup. These extraordinary individuals pushed Tim and I. They believed in who we are, saw our potential, provided tremendous emotional and technical support, perspective and creative input. We will forever be grateful to them. Our outstanding team of LDI educators, Caryn Ipapo-Glass, Mandy Santiago, Marisa Shimano, Kelsey Bevington who are always there to provide the finest education. And finally to the parents who believe in LDI as well, thank you!
