Meet Alexa Grimshaw | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Grimshaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always wanted to own something and be able to say, I did this! I want my kids to see their mom be successful and do what I love. I come from a big family and family means everything to me. Being the oldest child and grandchild, I learned to help, share, and do everything together. I wanted to be able to do something as a family where I can take my kids with me to shoots if I can and they can see me at work. My husband has a huge part of helping me with this and getting me started, he helps get the word out, helps at shoots, made my logo and business cards. I don’t think I would have gotten this far without him by my side.
The whole idea started in 2020! I have always loved taking pictures as a hobby as a young kid and all throughout my life. I always had it in the back of my mind that maybe one day I can actually make it a business.
When pandemic hit I lost my job and was pregnant with our second child. I was nervous I wouldn’t be able to get another job after having the baby. I was able to go back to my previous job for s few months and decided to start working from home and building my photography business so I could see my family more and be present. If you want something to succeed you have to devote as much time and energy into it as possible. If you treat something as a hobby, it will be just that. I am happy to say I worked hard and am making it happen!
I am still small but building and growing every month more and more, I am forever grateful and thankful for all my clients and my family who help me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It has not been easy starting a business, I am still learning along the way. I am an amateur Photographer with dreams into my lifelong hobby into my full time career.
I put my everything into every session whether behind the lense or in front of the computer. I finish every photo as if it would be hanging in my own home on my wall.
I hand edit EVERY single one of my photos, no filters are slapped on.
I believe every moment deserves special attention.
This is my passion and it is a lot if work but I don’t see it as work, I look forward to all of my photo shoots every week.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Growing up In Columbus I always think we don’t have a ton of things to do but the main things I can think of off the top of my head is going to the Columbus Zoo or Zoombezi bay and just hangout in the pool all day.
We can also hit up Kings Island or Cedar Point and ride all the rides and hit the beach in Cedar Point, maybe even go to Put in Bay for a weekend.
If you are into sports we can head to Cincinnati and see a Reds game or there are the Columbus Clippers here in Columbus.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the support from my family. My husband is my biggest supporter and has helped me more than anyone, I have my grandma who helps with watching the kids while I go on a shoot. Or they will just come with me and help out being my sidekick. I couldn’t do this alone so I am forever grateful for them.

I want to thank my kids for being my inspiration for wanting to have more freedom to be able to be with them more. As well as thank my husband, for supporting any idea I have and always being there for me.
