We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Brzozowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Once I had been in business for a few years, I have had times (yes, this has happened more than once) where I was working so much with clients that I was unable to work on growing my business or anything else. Not only did this effect my sales pipeline once those projects wrapped up because I did not have new business lined up, but it also caused an imbalance in my personal life. I was extremely stressed, felt like I couldn’t breathe, was becoming resentful and didn’t have enough time to do the things that I love. I was letting the business run me instead of running the business and it was taking over my “me time”. Needless to say, I burned out and did not have any kind of balance in my life. I even got sick a couple of times because my immune system was so stressed. I used up all my time and energy. Since then, I have learned to set clear boundaries with how much client work I will take on in a week to create a more balanced business and personal life. I also changed my business model recently so that I can work toward having the lifestyle that I want. I do think that having a balance is important and I make every effort to try to get it as much as possible. There are some people who say that balance it is not realistic when you own a business and I understand what they mean. Owning a business your mind is never fully turned off so you may think of ideas or things you need to do during your “personal” time. I try really hard to unplug and let myself relax. Yes, those to-dos and ideas still come through. I do not fight those thoughts coming through, but I will write them down and get back to focusing on relaxing and enjoying my time. This allows me to recharge, come back stronger and allow new ideas to come through when it is time to get back to work.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Be Organizing is a company of Professional Organizers and Productivity Specialists that reduce stress and simplify people’s home, business and digital life. Our goal is to bring harmony to people’s lives by helping them free up time to do what they love by bringing order and efficiency to their lives. What sets us apart is that we are able to integrate our expertise in all three service areas (home, business and digital life) to bring a holistic approach to our clients. We look at the big picture. For example, instead of just organizing your CDs we are able to take it a step further to help you get them digitized and organize them digitally, so you can enjoy listening to them in the car again and save space since they will no longer need to be physically kept. For our digital organizing services, we work remotely with people not just in San Diego County but all over the country. This allows us to easily help more people. What also sets us apart is our online Digital Photo Organizing Course, which is great for those who want easy, actionable and broken-down steps to organize their digital photos, specifically. They can finally feel at peace knowing they can easily locate their photos, access them from anywhere and that their memories are safe and secure for them and their family! I am proud of how much we have been able to and continue to make an impact on our client’s lives. We see systems that we put in place or they learn to put in place themselves from our course save time and bring clarity to our clients. How the space around you looks, physically or digitally, and feels is in a way a reflection of what is going on in your head. Many times, clients discover and learn things about themselves in the process of organizing. It is so rewarding to see our clients transform their space and in turn their mind.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to some of the traditional tourist spots because I feel like you have to see them at least once. So Mount Soledad, La Jolla Cove to see the seals, Sunset Cliffs, hike at Torrey Pines, have a picnic at Kate Sessions, and of course, go to the beach. Would go to one of my favorite beaches, Coronado, have grab a drink at the Del on their deck at sunset. I would also take them to one of my favorite local spots in La Jolla on the water that is hard to find. The water at the spot is always clear and at low tide there is a little beach to sit on.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business coaches over the years, Ursula Mentjes (Sales Coach Now), and Rae Majors-Wildman. Their advice, support and encouragement has propelled my success. Also, my team. I am so blessed to be surrounded by amazing women who I trust so much. They truly support me and the business. My mom and fiance who are always there for me. They listen to me vent and always give their love and encouragement. Lastly, our clients. Their encouragement in what we offer and how we help them keeps us going.
